Had this for a week. Have had many gaming laptops over the last 10 years. This one works as good as advertised. Very please with it and certainly priced well for what it is capable of. Will highly suggest for any gamer though. Go with the ssd. ssd vs hdd is like comparing day to night. Mine came with the hdd and I upgraded to ssd.Update. I noticed it felt a little warmer than usual after playing Guild Wars 2 I reduced the graphics in the game to low and set the fps to no more than 30, I also have this on a chill pad with 3 fans. Sometimes it would over heat and shut down at random and sometimes it wouldn't. But we all know if it starts over heating now after less than 2 weeks it will only get worse. I am returning this to Amazon. Wanting a replacement. I love the design and was very happy with this laptop. I hope it was just a fluke and they can either repair or replace and it doesn't over heat again. Will update again once I have a different one. If the over heating issue is resolved. I will certainly recommend this. If it is not resolved of course I cannot. I am still giving it 5 stars. Very impressed with the design and how light it is.

If I could afford it, I'd buy two or three more of these laptops as backups. I'm nota gamer. I bought it because it had everything I wanted: A LOT of memory, a fastvideo card with dedicated memory of its own, a NIC with the latest class of WIFI(802.11AC). The only thing I don't like about it, is I can't replace the battery. It alsohas a slight annoyance, at least for me. The left and right buttons on the touchpad, are actually a part of the touchpad; meaning, running your finger over the buttonsactually moves the cursor. And, the entire touchpad, including the buttons, pressdown as one, big left click. I've never seen a touchpad like this, before, and it'sbeen a little strange getting used to it. Oh, and it runs very cool and appears to bemade of aluminum, which would make it very durable.

Wonderful but NOT for VR.

Hard to know where to start with this thing. It is insanely fast, has an ultra big and ultra high quality display, and has handled everything I have thrown at it with just one exception which I will explain below. It is a bit on the hefty side, but that is typical for gaming laptops. Battery lasts about 4 hours on a charge; not something you are going to be using without a charger for days on end.Games look and run fantastically. That said, I had one issue, which is probably not really ASUS fault. I initially had some terrible game quality. After messing around with device manager, I saw that there was an error with the GPU and that it had been disabled. Rolling back the driver to two versions ago cured the problem. I updated all the drivers right after unboxing this thing, so it is possible that GPU would have worked fine out of the box (I cannot remember what driver it came with). After getting the GPU working, games started doing what they were supposed to do.While this was in the mail, I bought an Oculus rift. All the specs added up (processor is right, GPU meets minimum requirements, plenty of memory, etc.). But after getting the Oculus, I quickly learned that this cannot handle VR (or at least Oculus). The problem appears to be in the configuration of the HDMI port (and the minidisplay). Both apparently connect to the standard Intel graphics card, NOT the higher powered GPU. This means that oculus cant get a video signal. I tried and tried but could not come up with a workaround (aside from buying an expense external GPU set up). Note that this lack of VR is NOT a problem with the laptop. It is not advertised as supporting VR. But, the specs make it seems like it should work. I am here to tell you it does not. So if you are looking for a VR laptop and think you found one in this, please look elsewhere. In sum, for gaming and everyday use, this is a beast. It handles everything except VR with ease. Careful with the drivers for the 1050ti GPU.

I just got this laptop a day ago and so far have not had one issue that anyone else has had with it. I started it right up and have been gaming with it since and honestly does not get warm or hot and is even quiet while playing. I really like all the Asus utilities that come with it are very nice and let you control everything from fan speed to clearing up memory. It lets you monitor heat source and all spots of heat on the CPU and GPU. I hope to have this laptop for many years and I will say if you are one of the people who have had a issue with your laptop, I would say to give it one more try and swap it for another one. It is a great system and all, BUT the only ONLY thing I wish was different was the case. My monitor case feels like it is made with steel but the rest of the system feels like hard plastic but looks like steel. Overall I highly recommend this and say for the price you will not get anything better.
