This thing is screaming fast!
MamaBear007 (Nov 14, 2015)

This laptop, with its Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz. processor (and can turbo up to 3.5GHz), the 16GB DDR4 RAM (which runs half as cool and twice as fast as DDR3) and its NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M gaming graphic card will handle any game out there with ease. The Matte IPS FHD display, with its 1920 by 1080 resolution, makes any game look awesome. It will be awhile before I need to upgrade anything on this, but when I do, the slide-off upgrade panel will make it super easy to add a 2.5" SATA III SSD, a bigger hard drive or upgrade the RAM.Then there are the little extras... I love the circuit board design behind the keyboard (see my picture). You can reduce the intensity of the red backlighting by pressing "FN"+ "F3" or increase the intensity by pressing the "FN" + "F4" keys. The backlighting can go all the way from nothing at all to "bright enough to scorch your retina". I like it as bright as it goes, while my husband likes the light a little dimmer. We can both "have it our way." I love that the touch pad has right and left-clicking features, so it acts more like a real mouse. Everything about this laptop screams quality and should excite any gamer.

Seems too good to be true!

I was due to downsize from my old 18" gaming Asus laptop, and came across this model. I checked and rechecked the specs dozens of times- for the price, I couldn't believe what I was getting. I compared it other available Asus models and just for fun- the MacBook Pro specs. I would expect this laptop to be at least in the $1200+ range for PCs and the $2k+ range for the Mac.After receiving it and getting a chance to play with it, I'm still really impressed. Windows 10 is a little wonky IMO, but the laptop updated itself and downloaded my key software with no issues. I occasionally play World of Warcraft, and latency was less than 32 and fps was 96. (In my garrison... I haven't had a chance to see what happens in a large raid!) The screen is beautiful and the graphics look great. The machine boots up quickly and is very responsive.I like the chiclet keyboard. My only cons so far are cosmetic- I don't love red backlighting, but it does what it's supposed to do. The touchpad feels.... I don't know if "cheap" is the right word. When you touch it, you feel it depress slightly, and it's unsettling to me. It works completely fine- it's probably just my own personal preference for a mousepad to feel more solid.Oh and this machine is LIGHT! I can't believe how light it is and how cool it runs. It weighs a pound less than my Alienware 14" laptop and several pounds less that my 18" Asus.Going to take her traveling this week- looking forward to it!

This is the computer to get
Amateur Biker (Nov 6, 2015)

This is a great machine so far. I've been an HP owner for over a decade and Asus simply beats them... Not that HP is bad but Asus got a lot right.Out of the box the computer goes through the Win 10 final installation process. Unlike HP there isn't a lot of upfront add on programs. Enter a username/password, connect to the wifi network (not even asked on a wired network) and before anything else the system has gone out and found the latest updates for both Win 10 AND the installed hardware. None of this do you want to install this and that piece of BLOAT. Some of this could be because of Win 10 but so far the only cleanup I've done is uninstall the third party gaming junk that comes from NVIDIA because of the graphics card.Win 10 is present from the start... no waiting for an existing operating system to "upgrade" to Win 10. I love that I get to use the computer NOW not several hours later while the OS updates or having to spend several hours while packages from a script install that I have no choice about. I was up and running within a half hour from turning the power on... that includes the post patch boot which happened ONCE rather than 4 or 5 times of a typical consumer laptop... Speaking of power.... took me a bit to find the on switch. Most other computers have a switch/button either along one of the physical edges of the laptop or above the function keys on the keyboard. The power on this one is just another key on the keyboard at the top right corner of the number pad.I've had the system powered up for over 16 hours now... The ONLY warm spot is on the bottom left just below where the wall power connects and on top under the left palm. I've not heard the fan kick in even once. Compared to other laptops the fan exhaust vent is MASSIVE. At least 3 inches next to where the power connects There are multiple smaller vents on the bottom to let air in as well. Likely why the system has stayed cool. My HP laptops would have cycled the fan(s) up to at least medium speed by now with a slower CPU, Memory and HDDPackaging was minimal. The standard Amazon box contained the Asus "suitcase" box with the laptop inside. Push the suitcase handle out of the way and the box opens like a cake box. The laptop is in a foam sleeve with a foam sheet between the folded down screen and the keyboard. Each of the following have their own compartment to the sides of the laptop in the box' power-brick, power cable, microfiber cloth, velcro cable wrap.Downsides... only a few very minor ones and probably more personal than an actual issue. The power cable connects via a 90 degree on the left side of the keyboard back near the hinge. Typical minimal instructions... at least their is a diagram of what the ports are but the "booklet" is very small print... needed my 1x readers. this does NOT have a VGA out port... only HDMI and DV. Thankfully I have a HDMI port on my Viewsonic so I don't need to connect to a TV.I've NOT tried any of the external connections other than connecting my iPhone for charging and then only as a standard PC USB. There is a feature to boost the power for charging phones... just not tried it yet. The network port has a "flap" to partly protect it when not in use, no gaping hole for things to get inside and ruin it.

This is a great laptop. Very fast will run everything you throw at it. Will play most games 2015 in full HD. If anyone is having a problem with the Intel 530 graphics driver crashing boot the computer into BIOS mode and set the amount of memory (for video card) to max 512 and all videos and playback will be smoother with no crashes. Only downside about this laptop is it is kind of thick. Not heavy just thick.

Strong Laptop for hard work!

I bought this ROG 3 weeks ago and before doing anything I upgraded it with Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB M.2 SSD. I installed the OS on the SSD and the laptop is running so fast! I'm not only gamer but also a designer and the 16 GB RAM with the GTX 960m works very well helping me designing and rendering. I love the design, the performance and the quiet fans. The only thing that doesn't meet my expectations is the battery, looks small comparing to the size of this laptop and it wont last long if you're playing games. I love how the fan vent is on side so it wont gets overheated, though I recommend you buy fan-pad for better cooling while playing.

BEST gaming laptop I have bought
DarthVader87 (Jan 6, 2016)

Great laptop!! great price for value, theres only one snag that could be improved and its the proc... it's 2.5 Ghz with turbo boost to 3.5, considering the rest of the specs of this laptop it could use a steady 3.5 speed proc instead of turbo boost... it can get slow sometimes but its not too much trouble, I still give it a 5-star rating because compared to its competition its waaaay better and the price its very convenient because it has great specs. I totally recommend it and big props for ASUS ROG for making this laptop. just the right size, right specs and right price.

It's already been a month now since I purchased this laptop and it is performing as per my expectation. The only thing that has bothered me is that the hard disk runs a bit noisy (I mean you need to be quite close to the laptop to hear the hum of the HD) but all the same I think I'm just being paranoid about it

The touchpad is very sensitive and while it isn't as good as an apple touchpad
Wahoo (Jan 26, 2016)
on Amazon
I researched gaming laptops for several weeks before deciding on this ROG model, and it has met and exceeded my expectations. Even though it's not an SSD it boots up very quickly, and runs my games perfectly. The touchpad is very sensitive and while it isn't as good as an apple touchpad, it's by far the best touchpad I've ever used on a PC. The keyboard took a little getting used to size-wise, but is very responsive. There have been some complaints that the keyboard is "mushy" and that the screen is flimsy, but I've found the keyboard crisp and responsive, and the screen isn't flimsy. It doesn't sit flush with the keys when the laptop is closed (the edges sit flush but the center of the screen moves in when I push on it) so I wouldn't put a book or something else heavy on top of it. Other than that the screen is very sturdy. The screen itself is amazing and shows every detail in games and videos. All around this is a great laptop for the moderate to heavy gamer, and it's much more portable than comparable models because of it's size and weight.
