With Intel's True Key, Your Face is the Password

The number of websites and apps we use are increasing every day, and it seems everyone wants us to use a password.

"The average person today has over two dozen online accounts, each one protected by a password," says Dr. Richard Reiner, VP of Technology at Intel's Safe Identity Solutions Division.

"That's the dilemma people are facing: either use simpler passwords, or re-use the same password in many places, or write their passwords down somewhere - none of which are secure," says Reiner.

Enter Intel's True Key.

What is True Key?
Simply put, Intel's True Key is a cross-platform password management app that can remember passwords you use across various sites. If you are signing up at a new website, or simply changing your password, the app can also generate (and remember) secure passwords for you, so you don't have to use the same password across various sites or use insecure passwords like 'hello1234'.

How does True Key work?
Once you've installed the True Key app on your phone, tablet, or computer, as you navigate to your apps and web sites, True Key remembers your passwords and automatically fills them in for you when you return. Your information syncs to all your devices via the cloud, so you have access to your passwords everywhere.

What about security?
Only you can access your True Key profile once you prove your identity - via either your face, fingerprint, or proving ownership of a device. On your computer, for example, True Key could use the built-in webcam to recognise your face and login you in automatically. This even works with the Windows account login screen.

For secure sites like your bank's, you could tell True Key to add another level of security, like check for the presence of an additional Trusted Device. So, while trying to login to the bank of your computer, True Key will send a message to your phone, and you can simply swipe the notification to confirm that you have permission to proceed.

True Key can also use the fingerprint scanner on mobile devices to provide an additional layer of check, if needed.

What platforms is True Key available on?
True Key is useable on Windows PC, Mac, Android, iOS devices and across Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Where are my passwords stored? Are they encrypted?
The True Key app keeps your data locally on your device using AES-256 encryption, one of the strongest grades of encryption available. The encrypted passwords are also stored on True Key servers, to make them available across all devices seamlessly. Passwords and other sensitive data never leave your device unless encrypted first.

How much does True Key cost?
True Key has a freemium model, where users get up to 15 logins stored for free. A premium subscription with additional space costs $19.99 per year or $1.99 per month.

How do I get started?
True Key is currently available only for select users. Join the waitlist on True Key's website - you can get a free six-month premium subscription of True Key if you do so now.
