Dropbox, the popular file hosting service, is now available on the Xbox One. The company has over the years managed to integrate with Microsoft Office and has now jumped on to Microsoft's gaming console as well. Separately, Microsoft has brought its Xbox streaming app to the Oculus Store, letting users stream games to the Rift VR headset
Starting with Dropbox, it appears the cloud storage company wants to make accessing files across various platforms a more seamless experience and the Xbox One is another step on that path.
The Dropbox app is also the first universal Windows app for cloud storage on the gaming console. Xbox One users will be able to view and share photos, videos and other files from the cloud on the big screen. But the app for the gaming console does a little more than that. You can upload screenshots and pictures with Kinect to your Dropbox.
For those who were waiting to seamlessly watch their saved video files on the TV, the app will also let you stream any video file in your Dropbox to the Xbox One. Moreover, you can also upload files to Dropbox from USB drives connected to the console or from any other Windows 10 applications running on the console.
Dropbox sees the app for Xbox One as beneficial to developers as well, according to Engadget's report. The company said that Xbox developers needed a way to access their files from the cloud as they needed them for building their apps. The Dropbox apps lets them do that now.
Microsoft's OneDrive, however, has been available on the Xbox One for a while now. The Dropbox app is a welcome alternative for users although one will have to wait and see just how many use the new Dropbox app to view and share files.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is releasing its Xbox streaming app to the Oculus Store, allowing Xbox One users to stream games to the Rift VR headset via a Windows 10 PC.
To make this happen, you will need an Oculus Rift headset running Windows 10 and an Xbox One on the same network. Download the Xbox One streaming app from the Oculus Store and select the Xbox Console you wish to stream (in case there are multiple consoles on the same network).
Once connected to your Xbox One, you'll be able to view the home layout as you see it on your console through the Rift VR and start playing. You can also invite friends and pretty much do anything you would while playing on the console.
