Wynk Music - the over-the-top (OTT) music application from Airtel - on Monday announced that it has crossed 75 million app installations.
"It is really gratifying to see the overwhelming response from our users. We believe it's an outcome of our unrelenting focus on innovation to deliver a great in-app experience driven by superior content curation with sharp focus on regional music. Affordable smartphones and increasing penetration of high speed data services will continue to add to the uptake of music and other content on smartphones. At Wynk, we will continue to bring more exciting innovations to make add to the music experience of our users," Sameer Batra, CEO, Wynk, said in a statement.
Launched in 2014, the Airtel Wynk Music platform has a collection of over three million songs, including music in 12 Indian regional languages.
"While overall music from Bollywood continued to rule, it was Indian regional music streams on Wynk that stole the show and grew by over 100 percent," the company said.
Music in languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, and Kannada accounted for a majority of the growth in the regional content.
Contributing over 3 percent of the overall music streaming, the remixed versions of Bollywood classics continued to grow popular on the streaming platform. Airtel is also highlighting that 13 percent of its active users are from rural India, and these contribute nearly 10 percent of all the overall streams.
