WhatsApp has updated its iOS client to add more 3D Touch capabilities. The company, which added support for 3D Touch to its iPhone app last month, now features support for Apple's Peek and Pop 3D Touch features.
Using Peek, one can preview the content of an app without actually opening it. Pop, which requires a firmer press, confirms that you want to view that content and navigates to it. With support for these features, a WhatsApp user can see their conversation thread with someone without actually opening it; using Pop, if desired, a user can quickly let a chat open.
Peek and Pop also work with Safari, Google Maps, Photos, and Mail apps. The features, exclusive to new iPhone models - the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus - are slowly being implemented by app developers. Though, at this point of time, the vast majority of apps don't support the 3D Touch capabilities.
The WhatsApp app, which has been updated to v2.12.11, now also supports rich preview for links that are shared within the app. The changelog, of the app, however, also notes that users will have the option to not include a rich preview if that is required. The company says that it has also redesigned the Settings tab, and include the ability to view all the messages that you have starred under Starred Messages. WhatsApp for Android was recently updated to add Starred Messages.
The Facebook-owned messaging client has seemingly gotten aggressive about adding new features to its app over the past few months. The app, used by over 900 million active users, recently also added the ability to quick reply to users on iOS 9.1.
