After Dropbox, Facebook, and Instagram apps, WhatsApp for iOS is the latest to add support for 3D Touch on the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. WhatsApp for iOS is now receiving an update that bumps the version to 2.12.9 and is now available to download. The update primarily brings 3D Touch support alongside other minor updates.

With the addition of 3D Touch input to the WhatsApp for iOS, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus users can now use 'Peek and Pop' gestures based on the pressure applied on the screen. The App Store listing notes, "You can now quickly Peek and Pop pictures, videos, links, contact cards, and locations you send and receive in chats."

To recall, Apple's 3D Touch pressure-sensitive touch technology present on the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus allows the new iPhone models to differentiate between a quick tap and a long press, providing different interface options.

Other additions in the latest WhatsApp for iOS update include fixed issues with viewing media on older versions of iOS; WhatsApp UI can now be mirrored and optimised for right-to-left languages like Arabic (for iOS 9+), and other fixes and improvements.

The App Store listing also highlights Starred messages feature from the previous version which allowed users to tap and hold on any message in a chat to star it, so it can be easily found later.

Separately, a report indicates that iOS 9.1 beta users are seeing a Quick Reply option with the latest build of WhatsApp.

Dropbox was the first major developer to start rolling out an update to its iOS app adding the 3D Touch feature followed by Facebook and Instagram.

With the addition of 3D Touch, Facebook users on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were offered three quick actions on pressing the app icon. It included option to create a new post, upload photos/ videos, or take photo/video options.
