Alibaba-backed mobile browser, UC Browser, has said it has now captured over 50 percent mobile browser market share in the country as of September 2015, according to data compiled by Web traffic analysis tool Statcounter.

"UC Browser has seen staggering success in the Indian market with market share rising 15 percent in the last 12 months helping the company gain over 50 percent market here," Kenny Ye, director of international business development division, UCWeb, said on Thursday.

"As of today, one out of two mobile page views come from UC which is driven by UC's cloud-based browsing technology, power of data and cost saving and providing local content," Ye added.

The company, which has already included services and apps inside the browser which is customisable to user preferences, said it was looking to launch more services through the browser and work with partners to make the browsing better.

"We are currently working with nearly 5,000 partners to drive content and services on the app. We are also tying up with smartphone manufacturers and brands to include our app on their phones," Ye said.

UCWeb also hinted at plans to participate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India campaign.

The company, which has three modes of revenue generation, had last year launched UC Open platform to aid the Indian developers, content providers, publishers and advertisers to access across-the-board services for brand promotion, user/traffic acquisition, actionable user metric analysis and IP protection and monetisation.

The browser is also working on a feature which will let users watch videos on a small split window while browsing.

Over 90 percent ot the browser's user base are on the Android platform and the rest on iOS and Windows.
