Carbon for Android is finally seeing the light of the day after being in development for almost a year. The Twitter client is now available as a free download in the Google Play store. Makers of the app, Dots & Lines, say that the the differentiating feature of the client is that it gives users access to all of their Twitter content in one screen without the need to drill down to different screens. Carbon for Android offers the user's Timeline, Mentions, and Messages on the home screen, and Lists, Favorites, and Trends as an extended screen to the main screen.

It's noteworthy that the app doesn't work on Android tablets, and the developers have said that they're working on a separate tablet app. It's worth pointing out that Twitter now restricts third party Twiter clients to a limit of 100,000 API tokens. Dots & Lines said that they wanted to use all tokens for phone users who will be able to experience the full Carbon experience rather than offering an extended or tricked up experience of their phone app on tablets. The app does not support real-time updates at the moment.

The app offers a graphite background theme and sports features like the ability to refresh the Timeline by tilting the phone, Scrolling/Swiping up or down using Two fingers to jump to top or bottom of Timelines, rich Timeline view with full inline images and videos, Tap+Hold on individual tweets to get actions (reply, retweet, favourite) right on the Timeline, a QuickTimeline button on the home screen for access to Lists, Searches, Trends, Favourites and others, conversation view, background updates with quick actions for Jelly Bean (on the notification bar), and Filters for Hashtags, Users, and Keywords.

Dots & Lines had previously developed Carbon for WebOS, Graphite for WebOS tablets and Carbon for Windows Phone Twitter clients. They've stopped development for all these apps and are presently focusing only on the Android version.
