Tweetdeck, a popular dashboard-style application and Web client for Twitter, has been around for a while and is one of the most popular clients for the micro-blogging service. Available for macOS and Google Chrome, Tweetdeck allows users to manage multiple accounts, viewing the timeline and posting to the right account when needed. The popularity of the application led Twitter to acquire the service in 2011. Tweetdeck has now updated its macOS application, with the update now rolling out on compatible devices.

The latest update for Tweetdeck is rolling out now for macOS devices, and has some key improvements listed in the changelog. This includes a change in the old webview implementation with a modern view based on WKWebView. Due to this change, Tweetdeck is now only supported on macOS v10.10 (Yosemite) and later. However, most current Mac devices run newer versions of the operating system, and won't be adversely affected by the change.

Other changes include a reduction in memory use, fixing the ability to link Twitter accounts through Teams, and a major fix to a crash issue that is said to have impacted a large number of users. This fix will make the app much more stable as well. The update is available to download through the Mac App Store, and is just 2.9MB in size. As we mentioned, Tweetdeck is also available as a Web client through its website which can be opened on most browsers, and can separately be installed as a Google Chrome app.

Tweetdeck started out as an independently-developed app, but has since been acquired by Twitter. It is one of the most popular Twitter clients alongside the official Twitter apps, and is largely targeted at users operating business accounts on Twitter, or for those with multiple accounts. The feature set allows a fair amount of flexibility, along with a column-based interface for viewing activity on different accounts. Twitter last year discontinued the Twitter for Mac app, instead encouraging users to use the Web interface through a browser.
