Samsung Pay Now Supports Bill Payments in India, via NPCI BBPS Platform

Samsung India on Thursday announced the addition of bill payments to its mobile payments service Samsung Pay. Users can pay their mobile, landline telephone, electricity, gas, water and DTH bills using the feature which is facilitated by the National Payments Corporation of India's (NPCI) Bharat Bill Payments System (BBPS). Consumers can view due amount, details of previous bills and location-based suggested billers. Reminders for bill payments are also available.

"Consumer-centric innovation is at the forefront of our business. Since the launch of Samsung Pay, we have constantly innovated and added user-centric features such as UPI, wallets, Gift Cards and now Bill Payments. With the introduction of 'Bill Payments', consumers will be able to pay their utility bills seamlessly through Samsung Pay, set reminders and search favourite biller based on their current location. 'Bill Payments' is another 'Make for India' innovation that we believe will greatly benefit our consumers." Sanjay Razdan, Director, Samsung India, said.

Samsung Pay debuted in India in March and works with the company's patented Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology as well as with Near Field Communication (NFC). As for bill payments, Samsung says that existing Samsung Pay users in India will have already received an update notification that will enable them to use the service.

Apart from India, Samsung Pay is now available in 12 global markets, including South Korea, the US, China, Spain, Singapore, Australia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Russia, Thailand, and Malaysia.

Its partners include Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI Cards, Standard Chartered Bank, and Citibank apart from payment gateways Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
