Pokemon Go is hosting a special lunar new year event to mark the beginning of the 'Year of the Dog'. The event started on Thursday and will run till February 17. Niantic announced the beginning of the event, which highlights Pokemon that look like dogs, on its official website.

During the course of the event, Pokemon Go players will be able to catch more Poochyena, Growlithe, Eevee, Snubbull, and Electrike. The mentioned Pokemon will spawn more frequently for the duration of the event. On catching these canine-shaped monsters, players will get three times the usual amount of Stardust, that helps players to power up their Pokemon.

On the occasion of the new lunar year, Pokemon Go wished players in a tweet. It also invited them to a Chiayi Lantern Festival to be held in Taiwan. Pokemon Go players will get a chance to encounter Dratini, Mr. Mime, Growlithe, and more Pokemon during the day and Chinchou and Lanturn will spawn during the night when the lanterns start to glow.

With the new 'Year of the Dog' event, Niantic is making yet another addition to Pokemon Go's numerous events to occur recently. First, there was a Gen 3 event, which added flying and Dragon-type Pokemon such as Rayquaza, Salamence, and more Hoenn. It was followed by a Valentine's Day special event that ended on Thursday itself. In other news, purchasable Team Rocket outfits have also just been added to the game.

To note, Pokemon Go, the augmented reality game that became a global phenomenon in 2016, returned to the top of the App Store charts recently, because of the newly added features. Notably, Pokemon Go has been updated to version 0.91.2 for Android and 1.61.2 for iOS to implement bug fixes.
