Opera Software on Tuesday announced the latest version of its browser for Linux, Mac and Windows - Opera 24. The browser introduces the tab preview feature, and the company alongside announced the milestone support for 1,000 extensions for the first time since it shifted to the Chromium engine.
With Opera 24, the company introduced tab previews - aimed at helping users figure out what a tab contains just by hovering their mouse over it. The new feature gives an inside preview of the opened tab upfront in the form of the most recent snapshot of the site.
The update also brings few improvements in Opera 24 for Windows, as it will now be able to utilise the higher-resolution, or HiDPI, screens, which have more pixels. Opera says that with this improvement the interface in new Opera 24 browser for Windows on such displays will look 'crystal clear' with rounded corners and 'much crisper' text.
Additionally, Windows users of Opera 24 will be able to choose a background colour for private browsing.
"Private browsing ensures that your Internet history and activity are removed as soon as you close all private windows. We've made private windows more distinct from normal windows by changing their background color on Windows," said company on its blog post.
In June, the company had updated its Opera Mini browser for iOS devices bringing a revamped UI apart from a range of new features.
Along with the flat new design that's in-line with the iOS 7 style, Opera Mini 8.0.0 features a built-in QR code reader for scanning and sharing QR codes from the browser itself, which will eliminate the use of an additional QR code reader app.
The updated app also has three new compression modes for data saving.
