Nokia has released the Motion Monitor app, which it had teased a few months back, for the Lumia 1520.

The Motion Monitor app is currently in beta version, and will be an exclusive to the Lumia 1520, as the app requires a quad-core processor to work. So, until Nokia or Microsoft release another quad-core Windows Phone, the app will only work on the Lumia 1520.

Motion Monitor basically tracks your physical activity, such as motion and steps, as the name suggests itself. It runs in the background without any need to manually launch it (hence requiring the use of one of the cores). The app takes advantage of a sensor in the Lumia 1520 and doesn't require much power as Nokia also mentions the "app uses power - but consumption is low".

After about 10 days, the Motion Monitor app provides you the details of your overall activity with levels like low, medium and high. Motion Monitor offers more detailed reports, which highlight different statistics. The app features Live Tiles compatibility, displaying information on lock and homescreens

Nokia in its announcement describes the Motion Monitor app's interface, saying, "The Timeline is where your daily activity is recorded. Here you can see when you were moving, how intense the activity was and your total step count. The Events view gives you insights into your motion and summaries of your day, while the Week and Month views will help you discover if there are any patterns to your movement."

Nokia reiterates that Motion Monitor is in beta stage, and may have some glitches, such as the detection of steps inside a moving car. Few other limitations include support for the English language only.
