Post Apple's announcement of a new Food and Drink category earlier this month, the section is now live in the iOS App Store. It lists thousands of paid and free apps.

To be more precise, there are 2800 paid and 4000 free apps in the iPhone section and over 1200 paid and 1000 free apps in the iPad section.

Most of these apps have trickled down from the Lifestyle section of the store. They cover various genres relating to food, recipes, drinks and cooking. However, topics related to dieting or shopping are not included.

More popular apps include the likes of Zomato, Epicurious, Jamie's recipes and Evernote Food.

During the Worldwide Developers Conference held last month, Apple revealed that there are over 650,000 apps available in the App Store. The total number of downloads has crossed 30 billion. And owing to its expansion in 32 countries last month, the App Store is now available in 155 countries.
