Mozilla reveals Junior, an iPad web browser

Mozilla has been known to be absent from the iOS. This absence seems to have been noted and rectified by the team as it plans to release a version of its browser for the iPad, and it is not Firefox. Apple's policy doesn't allow browsers using rendering engines other than WebKit on iOS platform, so Mozilla is using WebKit rendering engine and has developed a prototype called "Junior".

Mozilla's Alex Limi in a presentation stated that Safari on the iPad is "a miserable experience" yet it is the best option for iOS currently. Still in development, Junior is a full-screen experience, with no tabs or address bar. Junior prototype fills the entire iPad screen, giving a magazine-like browsing experience. The traditional search/ address bar have been removed from the top but they are easily accessible from the screen though. Instead, you get two buttons about a third of the way up the screen, a back arrow to take you back, and on the right a plus symbol. Tap the latter and you'll be able to open a new page, browse recent pages, and bookmarks.

You can also make separate user accounts for friends and family. A swipe to the left on the main navigation page will take you to a user login menu where you'll find options like private browsing etc. The use of passwords will mean no one can see what you've been looking at.

Junior isn't expected for a while yet, and no official date for its release has been revealed right now.
