LinkedIn has announced updates to its site and mobile apps. The professional social-networking site has also redesigned company pages, which now sport a rather simpler look.
Speaking of the updates, the latest addition to LinkedIn on web comes in the form of a real-time notification centre. Now you can receive alerts when someone likes what you've shared on the site, views your profile or accepts your invitation etc.. The alert comes as a notification flag on top of the home page along with a new inbox envelope icon.
New comments or likes on your shares, an accepted connection request, new inMails etc. are highlighted by a red circle, similar to Facebook alerts.
The real-time notifications are also available users of the LinkedIn app on iOS and Android. They can also access job listings and jobs they're interested in directly within their mobile update stream. iPad users can now enjoy the app in 6 new languages: French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, with more to be added soon.
LinkedIn has promised that the ability to edit user profiles from within the app is "coming soon".
Apart from these features, LinkedIn also gave company pages a major overhaul to focus more on simplicity and make finding news and information, career opportunities, products and services or insights more easily.
"For members, this means easier access to the information you want about the companies you care about. For companies, this means a more powerful way to build relationships with your target audience on LinkedIn," writes LinkedIn product manager Mike Grishaver on the company blog. Company pages are now integrated into iOS and Android to allow users to view company updates, that will appear more prominently for users to comment, like or share relevant updates.
The professional social-network recently also
redesigned its home page to include more social networking features. In July the company announced that
Microsoft Office 2013 will support LinkedIn integration.
LinkedIn also revealed some stats mentioning that close to 23% of LinkedIn's users visit the service through a mobile site. That's up from 10% a year ago. New members signing in directly from their mobiles stand at 15%. The company launched the iPad app in April this year followed by a new Windows Phone app as well in May. In August, the company
reported positive revenues as it pocketed more money from subscribers, services aimed at businesses and advertising.
Things are looking quite positive for the company as it continues to update and improve performance across all platforms. Here's a Slideshare presentation from LinkedIn with an overview of the new features for the iPhone and iPad.
