Instagram is revamping its 'Explore' page or tab on its Web interface and apps to make it more personalised, rather than showing random images of things users do not care about.
The news broke from Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram, via a Facebook post in which he stated, "If it's been a while since you checked out the Instagram Explore page, give it a whirl; the team's been working on incorporating personalized content in there now, too."
Moreover, Instagram, in a statement to Techcrunch, confirmed the Explore tab update, saying, "We're always looking to update the types of posts you see in Explore to better tailor it to you. We'll show you a variety of photos and videos that people you follow have liked, as well as content that is trending in the Instagram community."
It has been understood that the new change in the Explore section of Instagram would show those images and videos that has been liked by the user's friends. Some images are also based on the topics liked by user. For instance, if users follow a number of sportspersons and athletes, they would only see images and videos related to sports. This change is said to revamp the audience growth.
As Techcrunch notes, Instagram had replaced its Popular tab with Explore back in 2012, and included a search feature to find photos from particular users or tagged with particular hashtags. The default display of the Explore page however, still showed random images before the user performed a search.
Earlier this month, Instagram addressed the users who were facing the bug that hides their images, and said they are working on eliminating the bug. However, the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app did not say how long it would take to fix the problem.
Last month, Instagram crossed 200 million active users and said that till date in excess of 20 billion photos have been shared on Instagram and that there has been a growth of 50 million users in the last six months.
