This is the first major update the photo sharing app received since it was bought by Facebook for more than $1 billion in April. Speaking of Facebook, the update brings along with it the ability to share the photos you Like (symbolised by a little heart) on the app to your Facebook Timeline. This is optional and can be modified under the Settings menu.
However, the most noticeable change in both Android and iOS versions is the addition of an Explore tab represented by a new star-like icon, which replaces the Popular section from before.
The Profile tab on the iPhone has now been redesigned that is more visually appealing. Another welcome feature for iOS users is reaching your Camera Roll to post shots already existing on your device. All you have to do is long press the camera button and you're right there.
Instagram now also allows you to search by username or hashtag, which will prove useful in case you're looking for specific images. The app has also improved upon speed quite a bit, with images loading faster than in the previous version. The camera also pops up faster when you choose to take a picture.
