The last Instagram update bumped up the version to 7.2.4 and we can expect the Facebook-owned company to start pushing the new version to Google Play soon. Those who can't wait for the official update can download signed apk file from here. The new Quick Edit or Filter feature for Android was first reported by Droid-Life.

In the previous version, users were required to click an image and then choose filters before moving to the final post screen on Instagram app. With the new update, users after clicking an image are taken to a page where filters can be adjusted with just swiping across the screen. In case someone needs more editing tools, one can tap on the "Edit" button placed on the bottom left of the image. There is also a tag button on the image. Notably, the new edit screen page also shows some nearby locations to choose from; though the feature is likely to work only when the GPS on the device is turned on to determine the current location.
Droid-Life speculates that the "update seems to be rolling out via server-side update". However, considering that the Google Play India listing was last updated on July 20 and bumped the Instagram app to version 7.2.4, we can expect the company to roll out another update in the coming days.
Last week, Instagram added a search bar on the website bringing it closer to its mobile counterpart. On logging into their Instagram accounts on the Web, users noticed a simple search bar placed on top of the page, from where they can search for hashtags, profiles and images or videos based on location, just like in the mobile version. Instagram started giving with dropdown of suggestions related to the search text that users enter.
Instagram, earlier this month, started allowing users to upload and view high-resolution (1080x1080 pixels) images, with the changes rolling out to the Android and iOS apps slowly. The images on the photo-sharing website until now stayed with 640x640 pixels resolution.
