Infosys signs app development deal with Volvo Cars

Infosys, India's second-biggest IT outsourcer by revenue, said on Monday it has won a multi-year contract from Volvo Cars to provide application development services for its global operations.

Under the new agreement, Infosys will develop applications to support multiple domains, including marketing and sales, customer service, manufacturing, product development, and corporate functions, the IT major said in a statement on Monday. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

Infosys has already been supporting Volvo Cars since 2010 to rationalise and integrate its enterprise systems. Infosys will also deploy best practices specifically related to business process harmonisation and delivery excellence across transformation projects, it added.

"We will be a strategic supplier for Volvo Cars to deliver excellence and innovation to transform their IT landscape to a modern architecture. We are very pleased to collaborate with Volvo Cars in their strategic journey," Nitesh Bansal, Vice President - Manufacturing (Europe) at Infosys said.

The agreement also reflects Infosys' strategic focus on the Nordic market and strengthens the company's presence in Sweden, he added.

Infosys has suffered a string of disappointing earnings results after focusing on proprietary software at the expense of bread-and-butter outsourcing contracts. The Bangalore-based company has been seeking to reinvent itself with a strategic overhaul to focus on higher-value software and consulting services instead of labour-intensive outsourcing services.

Infosys last week warned that its quarterly revenues may be weaker-than-expected following project cancellations.

"Some of our clients have seen a slowdown in their business. These are across various verticals leading to unanticipated project rampdowns and cancellations in Q4," Infosys chief S.D. Shibulal was quoted as saying.
