Back when HTC launched its U11 smartphone, we mentioned that its Edge Sense feature sounded gimmicky but was found to be useful in performing certain functions. At the time, we felt that the feature was still on a rather restricted side but it seems like this complaint might be going away now. HTC has now updated its Edge Sense app to allow users to assign per-app squeeze functions to increase the utility of the feature further.
The Verge reports that HTC has started rolling out the beta update for the Edge Sense app for Android. As mentioned earlier, with this update, users can assign per-app squeeze functions to the Edge Sense functionality offered with the HTC U11 smartphone. To recall, this feature essentially allows users to perform functions like launching apps, turning on the flashlight, or even taking screenshots by simply squeezing the sides of the device.
Post the beta update, users now can now use the Edge Sense controls inside the app to allow assign per-app squeeze actions. In the Edge Sense controls, users need to select the option to add a new app, and then you get an overlay that lets them set up a tap or double-tap anywhere on the screen, as per the report.
While the tester found certain issues, which should not come as a surprise considering it is beta software, the new controls were found to be overall quite impressive. The extended control over the feature is something that improves the functionality of the feature by a significant amount.
