Google-owned Waze mapping application on Monday received what's arguably its biggest update since Google bought the app in 2013, bringing it to version 4.0. The update features a redesigned interface with an emphasis on visibility, leading to "easier navigation, reporting, and sharing," claims the company.

While the updated Waze app is available to download from the App Store, the team says its would make the update available for Android users 'soon'.

The map has been given a cleaner look, making it easier to read. The Waze team said it has made the features inside the application easier to access with less taps required than before. Brand new, is an ETA panel, bringing together reports, alternate routes, the ability to add stops in the route, and sharing ETA with contacts. The panel can be accessed via the Waze button on the bottom left, and also shows users saved places such as 'Home' and 'Work'. Other frequently visited places, search bar, and access to settings are also present inside the menu.

A reworked Reporting Menu is accessible via a big orange button on the bottom right of the map. The menu now includes bigger icons, which are colour-coded for faster access. Tapping and holding the orange button would let Waze users activate quick report action.

In addition, Waze 4.0 lets users set reminders to leave on time for Calendar events based on traffic. "Just sync your Calendar and Waze will be on the lookout for traffic, letting you know when you should hit the road. Remember to add a street address to your event location and you're set," the company blog post stated. Lastly, the Waze v4.0 update brings reduced battery consumption.

Earlier this month Waze mapping service came into news as its navigation feature directed a 70-year-old lady and her husband into a dangerous slum, resulting in the loss of their lives after locals shot at the car.
