Waze, a GPS-based navigation app owned by Google, on Wednesday updated its Android and iOS apps to version 3.8, bringing with it all new features and several improvements.
The updated Waze Social GPS, Maps & Traffic app is available to download via Google Play and the App Store. For Windows Phone users, the app is still not updated and is still showing version 3.7.4.5 on the Windows Phone Store. Notably the app had arrived on the Windows Phone platform in November last year.
Along with the multiple bug fixes and a new design, the updated Waze Social GPS, Maps & Traffic app version 3.8 for Android and iOS has brought a few new features with it. Users can now drive in sync with their Waze friends while driving to same destinations. To add friends, they can either tap on the friends icon on the map or the friends button in the navigation screen to add friends. User can now also manage their friends list.
The new Waze 3.8 app also lets other users "follow your [location sharing user] drive and know your real-time ETA," with users also able to see who is viewing their shared drive.
The updated Waze app for Android and iOS also includes a similar feature to WhatsApp's location sharing feature. The added 'Send Location' feature lets users send their current location (or old location from history list) to one or multiple Waze friends, and shared locations between friends can also be saved for future. Even the app main menu has been redesigned to accommodate Send Location feature directly from there. Users can now also 'keep Waze on screen when answering calls'.
Developed by an Israeli startup Waze Mobile, the Waze app was acquired by Google in June 2013 for $1.03 billion, known as the largest-ever purchase prices for an Israeli start-up. Waze had won the 'Best Overall Mobile App' award at the MWC 2013, beating Dropbox, Flipboard and others.Get your daily dose of tech news, reviews, and insights, in under 80 characters on Gadgets 360 Turbo.
