Android's Marshmallow update last year saw the addition of Now on Tap feature which was considered as the marquee feature of the OS. We gave the Now on Tap feature a spin last year and loved it a lot. The contextual search gained new features in recent months and it seems Google has rolled out new set of features to the Now on Tap making it even smarter virtually.

The redesigned Now on Tap includes two new card tabs for nearby places and quick actions. The nearby places card shows various options including restaurants, cafes, bars, shopping, gas station, and ATM. The possible tasks or quick action tab includes options such as new reminder, create event, set an alarm, start timer, navigate to work, and navigate home. Apart from the nearby places and tasks, there are no cosmetic changes to the Now on Tap feature. Tapping on any of the option, Google opens the feature in its interface.

The new features of the Now on Tap are visible to users on the version 6.0 of the Google app and we can expect the new features of Now on Tap to reach all users worldwide in coming days.

To refresh, the Now on Tap is a Google Search feature that gets triggered when a user holds the home button of the device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and offers contextual information around the topic mentioned in the screen currently open. It works within any app and automatically searches the context present on the screen by just long pressing the home button.

Earlier this month, Google updated its Now on Tap adding new capabilities including system-wide dictionary and search by image.
