Google is testing a new feature in Chrome for Android app that gives instant search results for a simple search query directly from the address bar, eliminating the need to press enter.

As discovered by OMG Chrome, the experimental feature by Google seems like the logical next step to auto-suggest. It displays instant answers to a simple search query typed directly into the Chrome omnibar on Android devices.

For example - if a user will type 'weather' followed by the city, "Weather Delhi", Chrome for Android will give the current temperature (see above) along with auto-complete suggestions without pressing enter. Notably, it cuts down on the amount of time it takes in a usual search from Google.

Since the feature seems to be in testing, it is not available in Chrome by default. Google Chrome for Android users can enable this feature by following steps.

  1. Type 'chrome://flags' in a new tab's address bar
  2. Find the 'Answers in Suggest' flag
  3. Tap on the drop down box
  4. Set it to 'Enabled' and relaunch the browser

Google notes a 'Warning' for all these experimental features as it may change, break or disappear at any time, and users should enable them at their own risk.

At present, it is unknown when the feature will be available to Chrome for Android users or if at all will make the cut for general release.
