Google on Monday has updated its Play Movies & TV app for iOS with offline playback feature, which was recently introduced for the Chromebook platform in June.
The iOS users will now be able to download movies and TV shows, which they can watch anytime without Internet connection. The updated (version 1.2.0) Google Play Movies & TV app is now available via App Store. The app, meant for both iPhone and iPad, also includes accessibility and stability improvements along with usual bug fixing.
Google made an announcement on Tuesday via Google+ post, saying, "Rejoice- offline movie playback for iOS has arrived! With Google Play's updated iOS Play Movies & TV app, you can download movies and TV shows then take them with you wherever you go, no Internet connection required."
Earlier the feature was limited to Google Chromebook and Android users, however, Chrome browser users on other platforms could still use the official extension (download) to view, manage or purchase content from it.
In addition to offline playback mode on Chromebook, the Google Play Movies & TV app also brought Info Cards and an improved Chromecast and local playback experience. With this, Chromebook users can use Chromecast button to send video wirelessly to a larger display.
In June, Google had rolled out the Play Movies 'info cards' feature to all 69 countries, where it provides the service, including India. Earlier the info cards feature was limited to users in the US and UK markets.
At present there are only a limited number of movies and TV shows currently supporting the info cards. These info cards are compatible with devices running on Android 4.0 or higher. For the latest tech news and reviews, follow Gadgets 360 on X, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Google News.
