Google May Introduce 'Stars' Feature for Organising Bookmarks

Google is said to be testing a new Web-based UI , thought to be called Google Stars, that will supposedly allow users to organise bookmarked content from the Internet.

A Google+ user named Florian Kiersch has leaked a video of the rumoured Google Stars which shows a number of upcoming features. The video indicates shows that the Google Stars feature has entered the dogfooding stage (being tested internally by Google employees); although Kiersch claims that the new interface is still under heavy development.

The leaked video, while not revealing a lot about Google's allegedly upcoming Stars feature, shows the process of planning and organising a collection of folders, and importing/ exporting bookmarks. The main screen shows the favourite items and an option to break them into folders.

Some of the Google Star features tipped by the leaked video include advanced search; automatic filtering of content; auto-detect of dead pages and spam, and option to make a folder private or public.

Kiersch on Google+ said, "It looks like the Google Stars frontend (the interface we users get to see) is still under heavy development, which means that current functionality is still limited (still dogfood) and might change. The web interface for mobile does look more like a mockup than a working interface atm., which is why I didn't bother to add those screenshots here."

The rumoured Google Stars feature is tipped to let users star 'items' on the Internet and even add them to folders. Once an item is saved, it would likely be called a 'star' and can be accessed or even shared with others.

Prior to this, Google has been said to revamp its native apps for Android, with numerous leaks over the past few weeks detailing the alleged Project Hera redesign, and several overhauled app icons and interfaces.

Reports have indicated that Google has been planning a makeover of its Android app icons to make them similar to Web app icons.

Google is expected to unveil what-is-being-called the Project Hera redesign at its Google I/O 2014 developers' conference scheduled to be held between June 25 and June 26. Of course, the company could make the expected changes before or after this date, but a launch along with the next major version of Android seems quite obvious.
