Google Keep, the widely popular note-taking app by Google, has received an update that renames its identity to "Keep Notes". Google hasn't yet rebranded the Keep app on iOS. Its Web app is still called Keep as well. However, the search giant has silently renamed the Google Keep app for Android devices to Keep Notes. The updated Google Keep (version 5.0.371.03) shows the rebranding on its app icon as well as the App info page. The new change comes a long time after Google brought its Keep app to G Suite.
With the Keep Notes branding, Google is apparently trying to emphasise on the note-taking ability of the Keep app. The new name is yet to be implemented for the iOS and Web versions of the Keep app. The side panel on Google's G Suite, including Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs, is also still referring to the original name.
The new name indeed highlights the key features of the Keep app. The app lets users add notes, lists, and photos. It also allows you to record a voice memo that will be transcribed directly on the app. Similarly, there is an option to even draw some stuff while on-the-go.
However, the rebranding makes it a little confusing if you suggest someone to use Google Keep Notes to write notes. Google could use "Notes" instead of Keep Notes, but again, there are several apps with 'Notes' in their title already available on Google Play. This would make it difficult to distinguish Google's offering against the hundred odd apps.
In spite of the latest rebranding, Google hasn't brought any new features or tweaks to the Keep app. The overall experience is identical to the previous version.
The updated Google Keep with Keep Notes branding didn't reach Google Play at the time of filing this story. However, you can download the APK file of the latest version directly from APK Mirror.
