Google has updated its Files Go app with a faster search experience. The app has also made it easy for Android users to locate duplicate files before their removal. The update comes weeks after the search giant integrated Google Drive backup support to the Files Go app. The lightweight app that's meant to help users manage the storage of their Android devices comes preloaded on Android Oreo (Go edition) devices, though it also works with any hardware running Android 5.0 Lollipop and above.
The updated Google Files Go app has received a new search feature that works similar to how Google Search functions. It offers instant results as well as comes with the ability to autocomplete your search queries and provides you with the search history support. Similarly, there are filters to help you find your required files in fewer taps than before. To use the new feature, you need to open the Files tab and then tap the search icon. After that, you can find all of your files by typing their names. The feature notably doesn't require an active Internet connection and works offline. Also, it was previously tested in a beta version.
Alongside the enhanced search offering, the new Files Go version is designed to let you easily locate all the duplicate files stored on your device. This helps to see where the duplicate files are located before deleting them from your device. To locate your duplicate files, long press on the thumbnail once the Files Go app suggests duplicate files for removal and then tap the i icon to see the location of the file.
The updated Files Go has additionally included the option to delete the photos and videos that are backed up in Google Photos. The app can detect which photos and videos have been backed up and then prompt you to delete them. This eventually helps to free up more space on your devices.
You can experience the new changes by installing the Files Go app (version 1.0.189786363). The app is 7MB in size and is available for download on Google Play.
