Almost two months after
launching its Android app, Indian ecommerce major, Flipkart, has launched an iOS app that offers users the ability to browse and purchase from the online shopping website's product catalogue from their iPhones.
Just like the Android app, the iPhone app allows users to navigate through Flipkart's different product departments including fashion products, electronics and accessories, books and entertainment, beauty and personal care and toys and baby care, through a slide out menu located at the right hand side.
The Flipkart for iPhone app also lets users search for products, categories or brands through text based keywords. Unlike the Android app, it doesn't feature barcodes and voice based search.
The app also allows users to narrow their search through Sort and Filter features, allowing them to sort products on the basis of relevance, popularity, price (both high to low and low to high) and discounts, and filter through the type, brand, price, discount, availability and other variables.
Product listings on the Flipkart app allow users to see images of products and zoom to see a close-up, in addition to offering user reviews and ratings. Swiping to the right also takes the user to the next product in the same product category.
The app also displays recently browsed products and their details even when the mobile device is not connected to the Internet.
The new iPhone app from Flipkart also allows users to share links to interesting products with friends, however, the app doesn't feature the iOS sharing menu and only allows sharing to Facebook and Google+, in addition to offering the ability to copy the link to the product.
The Flipkart iPhone app lets users place orders and use different payment methods including cash on delivery, credit/ debit cards, EMIs and NetBanking. It also allows tracking status of items in the order and checking other account details.
The app worked well and allowed us to add products to the cart and make payments, as well. It doesn't support the native 'swipe to right' for going back gesture of iOS 7 though it features a custom user interface.
The app can be
downloaded from the App Store. We wish Flipkart also starts supporting the iPad, soon.
