Facebook on Wednesday launched Facebook 360 for Gear VR, its dedicated VR app, to help users find and enjoy 360-degree images and videos. However, one caveat that comes with the release is that the app is currently just available for Samsung's Oculus-powered Gear VR headset. It should be noted that the app doesn't let you browse through your normal News Feed from Facebook but provides four different sections to help you browse through the 360-degree content available on the social network.
The Facebook 360 for Gear VR app currently features four different feeds - Explore, Following, Saved, and Timeline. The Explore feed helps users browse through some of the popular content available on the social networking platform while the Following feed presents the 360-degree content posted by their friends or the pages that they are following. The Saved feed is for the 360-degree content that the users have saved themselves for later viewing and finally the Timeline feed allows users to browse through the 360-degree content posted by themselves on their timeline.
In order to download the Facebook 360 for Gear VR app, users can open the Oculus app on their Gear VR-compatible Samsung device and search for Facebook 360. They can also choose to visit the Oculus website to get started and download the app.
"With more than 25 million 360 photos and more than 1 million 360 videos posted on Facebook to date, there's plenty of great content to discover in Facebook 360. The app is a one-stop shop for catching up on what you may have missed from your friends and others you follow, diving into the 360 photos and videos you've saved, and finding something new to enjoy," in its news post.
