Evernote for Android recently got updated with some noteworthy additions and improvements. Now the folks behind the popular note taking application are planning to introduce a major redesign for its Mac app in the form of Evernote 5.
Evernote 5 will come with over 100 new features to make it faster, smarter and showcase a completely redesigned interface for the Mac desktop app by focussing on better management of notebooks, tags and notes. Another new feature is Evernote Atlas to browse notes by location on a visual map. According to Evernote, Atlas will work with notes created by Food and Hello.
Atlas is a brand new way to visually explore your notes in Evernote. Evernote helps you remember where you were when you took notes to help you have richer, more vibrant memories. Evernote Atlas reads the location where your notes were created and intelligently presents them to you on Place Cards based upon their proximity to each other.
The app will come with a new sidebar allowing users to easily drag content into the Shortcuts section. It will feature the 5 most recent notes for users to access them quickly. Evernote says the side bar will be more visual, compact and easier to use.
Other features in Evernote 5 include a new Cards-like view for notes, a new look for the notes editor, added keyboard shortcuts, better sharing, new views for tags and notebooks and more.

Though there's no official word from Evernote 5 will also be integrated with apps like Skitch and Penultimate that it acquired in the past year.
Followed by the "Coming Soon" announcement for Evernote 5 for Mac, the company introduced the redesigned Evernote 5 for Mac Beta. But due to an overwhelming user response, the usability of the app got affected and Evernote was quick to issue a statement.
Because of overwhelming interest in the Evernote 5 for Mac Beta, the Evernote Service is becoming overloaded, which is causing users to experience various usability issues. This is due to large numbers of users re-syncing their entire accounts as part of the transition from a Mac App Store download to a direct downloaded version of Evernote. If you downloaded Evernote from the Mac App Store, we are unable to provide you with the Beta at this time. This will help maintain service quality for all Evernote users. We have updated the instructions below. We hope to provide a Beta update option for Mac App Store users prior to public availability.
Evernote 5 will also launch for iOS devices (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch) with the redesigned look and the features that we already mentioned, in addition to a few more like improved Page Camera with auto crop and auto brightness and contrast adjustments.
