Dropbox has
updated its desktop apps for quicker sharing of files. The new version (2.0.0) of the apps brings a revamped menu allowing users to accept or decline shared files and folders easily from within the menu.
The new Menu also displays recently changed files prominently, and previews of shared pictures. The app now sends notifications to users in real time as people share files, and can see them later just by clicking the Dropbox icon. In addition to this, the menu will also sport a Share button with recently changed files.
Notifications for shared folders will also show up on the latest versions of the Dropbox apps iOS and Android apps and on the web at dropbox.com/events.
The new update makes sharing seamless and the desktop menu even more useful.
Dropbox had recently
revealed that 1 billion files were being uploaded to the service every day. The announcement was made by company's CEO Drew Houston at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 in Barcelona. In addition to this, Houston had also shared that 100 million users tap into the service with 500 million devices - PCs, smartphones and tablets.
Dropbox had also
updated its iOS app bringing some new features including push notifications when another user shares a file, and the ability to sort files by date of modification, making the app even more useful.
For the uninitiated, Dropbox is a free service that allows users to store photos, documents, and videos on the cloud and share them easily. Dropbox was founded in 2007 by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi. At the time of launch, Dropbox could only sync files between different computers, but with time added support for smartphones and tablets. The company's current valuation is being pegged at a staggering $4 billion.
