Dropbox has announced a new tier - Professional - for its paid cloud storage service. Meant for people like freelancers, the tier gives them a middle ground between the existing business account and the other premium account with essentially provided them with a ton of cloud space. The company is charging $19.99 a month for Professional tier, and it will offer customers a terabyte of storage and a range of other features to go with it.
The cloud storage company said it felt the need to create a new tier for people who were not working at any company and couldn't justify getting the additional storage space with Plus account. The Professional tier, Dropbox said, will allow independent professionals to collaborate with other people.
Among the features Dropbox Professionals will be able to avail include Showcase, a feature that allows an introduction to be added to the documents and files one is sharing. This feature is designed to help people give more context about the files that have been share with them. One can add a logo as well as custom layouts to the introduction and know who has viewed the link so far. Dropbox says Professional users will get a detailed viewer history of the past 120 days with time and dates.
Professional users will also be able to password-protect folders and create links that expire after a certain period of time. They will also be able to avail Dropbox's Smart Sync feature which lets users stream files stored in their cloud to their desktop. The company is also selling a yearly plan with Professional, which is priced at $199.
