Dropbox on Tuesday announced that it has started rolling out the new Dropbox Badge collaboration feature to all Dropbox for Business users. The service was until now available for early access users since it launched in December last year. The cloud storage firm also introduced a commenting feature for early access users.

The Dropbox Badge collaboration feature service for Microsoft Office documents let users see who else is viewing or editing the document; check for a more recent version of the document and update, and also generate a link to share the document.

Dropbox in its blog post stated that almost 13,000 customers have already been using the Badge service under the early access programme that was launched in December. "It's helped them cut down on long email threads, multiple file versions, and having to jump from app to app," said the post.

As for the new commenting feature, Dropbox will now let early access users comment on a sidebar within a shared file. Users can also "@" mention the person with their email IDs so that the particular user gets a notification via email or mobile. "It's a quick way to call out comments that specific people need to be aware of or take action on," the blog post added.

Dropbox has said that this new commenting feature is limited to browser and iOS versions, and will soon be arriving on Android.

It is worth noting that the firm last week announced an update to its Android app that adds a pdf viewer and in-document search for various files. Users can also see any pdf file saved on the phone via the Dropbox app, even when offline.
