Earlier this year, Dropbox went public and after its IPO listing, the company has now revamped its Android and iOS apps with many new features and a sleek new centralised layout. The new features include file activity, teamwork, and a centralised Home Screen. The updated apps are already available on Google Play and the App Store, and you can update your Dropbox apps right now to see all the new changes.
The file activity feature is an iOS-only thing for now, and Android users will get it soon. This feature lets you see all the past edits done to that particular file, in order to get you up to speed. When you click on the preview of a file, a new Activity button now shows up below the preview, and clicking on that will pull out a whole list of edit history for that document. This feature is only available for Dropbox Professional and Business Advanced users.
The new teamwork feature essentially makes sharing much easier for app users. You can now use the Share button to send essential files to a specific person or a group of people who need it. Furthermore, in file preview, you can now add a comment lending feedback regarding a project. Team members can then read the feedback and work accordingly, and even add another comment giving their replies. You can even get file activity notifications in file preview.
Talking about the new layout, the Home Screen is more centralised with files that are Starred and Recent put in one place. And if you're bored of the mundane file list, you can switch to the new Gallery view which gives you thumbnail view instead.
As mentioned, all of these features are already available for both iOS and Android, except for file activity, which will be rolled out to Android users later.
