Carousel photo and video sharing service by Dropbox, which was initially unveiled for Android smartphones and the iPhone is now also available for the iPad and the Web. Dropbox said on Thursday it will also release a version for Android tablets in two weeks.

The Carousel app by Dropbox is a standalone application that can backup and store devices' photos and videos to user's Dropbox account. It also allows them to share photos with people who do not have Carousel app installed. Users can also disable the backup option by going in to Carousel app Settings > Back Up Photos & Videos. Upon disabling, all the photos and videos on device will still appear in Carousel app but won't be backed up to user's Dropbox account.

The iOS app has been redesigned to become a universal (iPhone + iPad) app and a Web version has been added as well. The iOS app with an improved grid view and a newly designed lightbox that lets you double tap to zoom.

"The old grid view had a lot of white space in between photos and events that wasn't very aesthetically pleasing, so we created this new grid view that fills up all the white space by making some of your photos larger than others," Chris Lee, Carousel Product Manager, told TNW. "We particularly focus on the photos of people and make them extra big."

Meanwhile, the existing Carousel app for iPhone now natively allows sharing to Instagram and WhatsApp.

"Right now there isn't a single place to bring all of your images together to make sure that they are safe, organised and super easy to share with the people you care about," Lee added. "We want to build a home for your most important memories."
