Ubisoft has released an iOS game called Assassin's Creed Memories, adding yet another title to its popular Assassin's Creed franchise. Unlike other games in the franchise, the iOS offering is a card-battle game with RPG and strategy elements tasking players to strengthen their Assassin characters, hunt targets across different eras, and 'recruit' allies for guild vs. guild battles against other players.
Assassin's Creed Memories features historical locations new to the series, like Feudal Japan and Imperial Mongolia, apart from more familiar ones like Renaissance Italy and Colonial America. The game's App Store listing reveals players can also experience other eras, such as the Third Crusade and the Golden Age of Piracy - both of which have been seen in previous games in the franchise.
The card-battle game sees players hunt-down assassination targets in single-player missions, while earning ally cards, and collecting new war gear. Cards can be collected in three different categories: Weapons, Armour, and Allies. While the first two are used to build attack/ defense stats and customise the player's Assassin's, ally-cards are well-known characters from across the franchise with signature abilities.
In order to earn extra rewards, players can also send their allies on contract-based missions. As for multiplayer, Assassin's Creed Memories lets players compete against each other in 20 vs 20 guild vs. guild (GvG) battles. Users, essentially taking the role of guild masters, can recruit their guild of Assassins, choose the right members for the battle, plan the attack strategy, and then use combo attacks to vanquish other players online.
Teaming up with GREE and PlayNext, Ubisoft has made its Assassin's Creed Memories game free to play. The company notes on the listing page, "No purchases are required. The purchase of in-game currency can accelerate gameplay, but all players can play the entire game for free. In-app purchases can be turned off by disabling in-app purchases in your device's settings."
Assassin's Creed Memories is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. The game is sized at 77.5MB and requires iOS 6 or higher.
Ubisoft has given no official statements on the availability of the Android version of the app.
Ubisoft recently announced two new instalments in the Assassin's Creed franchise that will arrive later this year. Assassin's Creed: Unity, which was first introduced in March this year, will reach the PC, Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One consoles on October 28. Assassin's Creed: Rogue will hit the shelves on November 11 this year and will be available for the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360.
