Apple is finally kicking off the festive season, with its 12 Days of Gifts promotion, via the app by the same name. The promotion is valid in all regions where the
iTunes app store lists the app.
Apple will be giving away various digital content freebies, including apps, e-books, movies, music, and more. Content will vary from region to region, depending on the availability of the product or service - in Apple's words, "Not all content is available in all countries."
The Cupertino-based devices and services giant kicked off the promotion in the US with the free giveaway of Justin Timberlake's iTunes Festival: London 2013 EP, which contains two live songs and two videos, specifically
SexyBack and
Take Back the Night songs, and
True Blood and
TKO videos.
The 12 Days of Gifts promotion lasts from December 26 to January 6, which each day offering one free download that will be redeemable for 24 hours. Apple had previewed the promotion earlier this month, giving away the Lorde single
No Better as a "gift to get you started."
Notably, the 12 Days of Gifts app is a
free download (64.7MB) from the iTunes app store, and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad devices running iOS 7.0 or higher.
While this last fact may not seem significant, iTunes users have already complained on the store that they can't access the device because their device (such as the iPod touch fourth-generation) is 'capped' at a lower iOS version.
Interestingly, this is the first year that Apple has extended the 12 Days of Gifts promotion beyond Canada and a few European countries.
