Remember the secret-sharing app that became popular for providing the ability to make anonymous comments? Secret, after enjoying brief popularity, was shut down last year after 16 months. Though, it may be back again with a brand new version.
David Byttow, Former CEO at Secret Inc, has confirmed that the next version of Secret will be launched soon. Byttow on his Facebook page confirmed the news and wrote, "Secret V2 is coming. It's too important not to exist."
Sharing details on the new Secret app version, Byttow told TechCrunch that the second version idea came after "the recent presidential election." Byttow however confirmed that his priority will remain Bold, a new company founded by him. Secret v2.0 will be built by a new team under Byttow's supervision.
"The downsides of current social media products must be addressed, and this is currently the way that I know how. People don't have a good space to be their most authentic selves, especially to people they know. There is too much fear, and there is too little self-awareness. We need more self-awareness, starting with Silicon Valley..... The truth wants to be set free. Only then can we begin to understand and only then can we heal and work together," said Byttow.
For those unaware, the San Francisco-based company Secret was formed by two former Google engineers, David Byttow and Chrys Bader, who were also former employees of Square. The Secret app offered users two streams of anonymous messages, which was the crux of the app - streams from Friends (including secrets of friends of friends) and Explore (with public secrets).
