Back in March, Rovio had first teased an Angry Birds game with a medieval theme. A few days later it had its official soft launch under the name Angry Birds Epic  in Canada and Australia. The new game was a narrative-based, turn-based strategy roleplaying game, a first for the makers of the massively popular game series. And now, come June 12, the game is set to make its international launch on both Android as well as iOS devices.

The new game takes place on the fictitious 'Piggy Island' in the Angry Birds' universe and has the Bad Piggies robbing the eggs of the birds once again. The difference this time around is the manner in which the avian creatures hunt them down. The 'epic worlds' in the game include villages, mountains, beaches and caves where popular birds like Red, Chuck, Bomb and the others chase down Crown Pig and his green minions. Get more details about the game from Rovio's official site.

While the game emphasises a more 'Show No Mercy' theme, what is interesting is the gameplay itself. The giant slingshots have given way to swords, knight armour, wooden bucklers, magic spells and more. This is an interesting breakaway from the regular gameplay, given that the other release Angry Birds Stella too deals with a more story-centric gameplay that features the new bird Stella along with her friends. The storyline for that game is set along the lines of friendship, courage and honesty.

Rovio has also unveiled a special promotional trailer that allows users to feature in it. Users can use a webcam or directly upload their pictures to put their face in the trailer and create an 'Epic' video.

How will the Angry Birds Epic game fare? That is something that only time will tell once the game goes live on Thursday. Meanwhile there has been no noticeable noise in the camp of the piggies, with the official Bad Piggies Twitter page remaining blissfully unaware of the changes around.
