Google
wants to ensure protection and security of mobile phone users and the
company has started rolling out an update from Tuesday that will help
you block and report spam callers. The company's Nexus account said via a
Google+ post that it is updating the Google Phone app with spam
protection.
The company said that "If you already have Caller ID
turned on, spam protection will be available on your phone once your app
updates to the latest version," in its
post. However, this
new security update is only making its way to
Nexus and Android
One phones as of now.
In
its post, the company did not specify if the update will make its way
to other Android devices in future. On
its support page regarding spam
protection, the search
giant specifies: "To use caller ID & spam protection, your phone may
need to send information about your calls to Google."
The
company says that the Caller ID and spam protection is switched on by
default in your phone but you can choose to switch it off by going to
Phone app > More Options (three dots on top right) > Caller ID
& spam protection, and then switching the option to off.
In
order to mark a call as spam, all you need to do is, go to Phone app
> Recent Calls, and then just tap the call that want to block and
choose the option to block or report the number.
