With the new roll-out, customers in India will be able to shop on Amazon.in alongside other Amazon stores from the single Windows Phone app. The official Amazon app for Windows Phone (v.2.4.80.7) also offers access to Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and other Amazon stores.
The updated Amazon app is compatible with devices running Windows Phone 7.5 and above, and is available for free at the Windows Phone Store. New customers will have to sign-up for an account via the app, while existing customers can log-in to their Amazon.in account. Notably, the Amazon.in catalogue is mentioned to be available for devices running Windows Phone 8 or higher.
The company notes in a press statement, "The Amazon app for Windows Phone users in India offers customers a convenient, fast and secure way to search, browse, compare offers, and make purchases quickly and easily, anywhere from a selection of 1.7 crore products."
The new Windows Phone app lists the full selection of products available on Amazon.in, including books, movies, mobiles, electronics, toys, baby, personal care appliances, health care devices, watches, fashion jewellery, home and kitchen products, and more. The Amazon Windows Phone app will also allow users to track the status of their orders.
Commenting on the announcement, Amit Agarwal, Vice President and Country Manager, Amazon India said, "We see mobile as a very important part of our growth strategy and are committed to offering the best experience to our mobile customers. Customer response to our Android and iOS apps has exceeded our widest expectations, and we are excited to extend the same on- the-go shopping experience to our customers on Windows Phone."
Microsoft India Chief Evangelist, Joseph Landes added, "The Amazon.in app on Windows Phone allows users to quickly search, compare prices, read reviews, share products with friends, and make purchases on Amazon India using a simple, yet elegant interface. We are pleased to offer our consumers this new addition to our Windows Phone store."
Earlier this year, Amazon rolled-out an update for its iOS app with the new Flow product-scanning feature.
Last month, Amazon India introduced the #AmazonCart feature for Indian consumers. The shopping feature allowed Twitter users to select items for purchase on the online retail site without leaving the micro-blogging site.
