Every week, we look at the way leaders from different fields use technology in our regular column, Personally Tech. It's a chance to look at how people who run some of the most high profile technology businesses operate, and we've checked out the gadgets used by people heading startups like Jabong, Fabfurnish, and Ola.
This week, we spoke to the head of a company that wants to teach you how to look good - Voonik. This is a personal shopping application, which recently raised $5 million (approximately Rs. 32 crores) in funding from Sequoia and Seedfund. When you visit, it looks like any other site that's selling fashion products, but the interesting thing about this site is that it allows you to define your body shape, skin tone, height, and personal style, and then makes recommendations based on what clothes would match your taste, and look good on you.
Voonik's CEO and co-founder Sujayath Ali is a self-declared techie, who can't wait for Siri or Google Now to take over every aspect of life. Read on to know more about the apps and gadgets he can't live without.
Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?
Sujayath Ali: My primary phone is a Google Nexus 6. I use Google for most of my services such as mail, calendar, maps, photos, docs, and notes so the Nexus 6 works best for me. My laptop is a Macbook Air and I also have an iPad Air. I use Apple TV to connect my Macbook and iPad to my TV. I use a Kindle Paperwhite to read books. I have an Xbox One with Kinect and also a PlayStation 4.
What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?
Sujayath Ali: One of course, is the Voonik app. I am addicted to Google Now. Gmail and Whatsapp are must-haves for keeping in touch with business. I also use Facebook and Twitter to get news updates.
What is the one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?
Sujayath Ali: My Macbook Air. Second is the Kindle Paperwhite.
What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?
Sujayath Ali: Would love to have a high tech home office, completely controlled by voice and gesture, powered by Google Now or Siri.
How has technology changed the way in which you work?
Sujayath Ali: Technology is improving my productivity in unimaginable way. I no longer type emails or messages but just dictate. I use voice commands for anything from sending messages to making calls to scheduling appointments. I'm eagerly waiting for Google Now integration with on-demand services such as Uber and Grofers. All entertainment is available on-demand on my iPad and projected to my HDTV.
