In our weekly column, we bring you some great deals on apps and games. Last week we'd found a lot of great games on sale, but this week we've got several awesome apps that you want to grab discounts on. We found apps for writing, expense management, photo editing, tracking flights or even browsing Wikipedia, with some amazing deals. And aside from this, we found a bunch of games too. Read on to see the best deals this week:
FlightTrack 5
FlightTrack is a good flight tracking app for Android and iOS. There are many other free apps (with in-app subscriptions) for tracking flights, but FlightTrack is one of the more expensive paid option. It has some interesting features that make it worth paying for though, such as automatically pulling information on your flights from ticket confirmation emails. It shows you real-time flight status and sends notifications when there's a change in status - so you know when it's time to head for a security check or boarding. The app is currently discounted for Android users.
Android (roughly Rs. 60, usually Rs. 300)
iOS (Rs. 300)
iA Writer and iA Writer Pro
If you need a minimalist writing app for your iPhone or iPad, you can't go wrong with iA Writer. Office suites such as Pages or MS Office are too bulky and slow to load up, which is not what you need when you just want to jot down notes or start writing right away. In such cases, iA Writer is a great app. There is also the iA Writer Pro version which includes a nice syntax checker that helps you improve your writing and it also has a better workflow manager that has different modes for notes, writing, editing and reading.
iA Writer for iOS (Rs. 60, usually Rs. 300)
iA Writer Pro for iOS (Rs. 300, usually Rs. 620)
PhotoCut
There are many photo editing apps on the App Store, but few of them let you edit images by layer. PhotoCut lets you add up to 10 layers of images while editing to create a more advanced photo editing solution. It has other features that you'd usually find only on professional tools such as Adobe Photoshop. You can edit images on each layer separately, add text in any of 300 fonts and easily cut out objects from any layer too.
iOS (Free, usually Rs. 60)
WikiExplorer Pro
Wikipedia is a fairly clean website, but the default layout can be too dull for some people. WikiExplorer Pro attempts to fix that with a better layout and great features such as saving articles offline to read later, a visual grid layout for articles, automatic night mode, text-to-speech mode, among others. The free mobile website is good enough if you only look up things one in a while, but if you spend a lot of time browsing Wikipedia, then this app is worth paying for.
Android (roughly Rs. 90, usually Rs. 190)
Tropico 4
The entire Tropico series is fun to play and whenever any of these games go on discount, we'll be sure to bring it to your notice. This installment of the game adds more superpowers to negotiate with and the ability to elect ministers into power to help get controversial policies passed. Along the way, political controversies and natural disasters will test your authority. The collector's edition of the game is on sale with a bunch of DLC.
Steam (Rs. 370, usually Rs. 2,500)
