  • A TANK OF A LAPTOP with a dose of VERSATILITY
THEBLACKLAB (Aug 2, 2017) on Amazon
a well constructed piece of machine. attention to detail is top-notch, has plenty of room to improve from its multiple storage slots, to its external graphics port. linux friendly had mine installed with ubuntu 16.04 (alongside the usual windows 10) without any hitch. i definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new laptop.

  • A powerful laptop for all needs
Sean Paradis (May 13, 2017) on Amazon
This is a powerful gaming laptop with awesome color led customization, excellent sound, and a sleek design. For gaming, this computer can handle larger up to date games without any hesitations. The touch pad is sensitive enough for quick responses if you aren't using a mouse, and the speakers provide rich, immersive sound. One of the things I really like about the design of this is that the power cord and other cable ports are on the back, keeping them off of your desk area and tucked away. For day-to-day office work, you can run multiple programs in the background. I've had music playing, research open in a few internet tabs, a writing software, and files open all together without any lag. Overall this is an awesome laptop whether you game more, or work more on it. It will handle most needs, from gaming, to graphic design, or simply an office computer. If you are looking for a new gaming laptop, or a laptop fo everyday use with more power, I am thoroughly impressed with this and highly recommend it.

  • Hands down the best laptop I've ever had
Bryce (Mar 16, 2017) on Amazon
Hands down the best laptop I've ever had. Well worth the price, and handles everything I throw at it like a beast. I bought it to make videos for my youtube channel "FisherOfMen" which is how I was able to afford this laptop. I also bought it for gaming and it runs like a majestic gazelle running from a pack of starving wolves.....fast, smoothly, and without pausing a beat.

  • Ultimate 17" laptop
JKT (Mar 11, 2017) on Amazon
What an awesome laptop. The lines on this machine speak to the care and detail they put into every aspect. The computer is very solid and well constructed. The screen boasts a 17" screen and it is beautiful to look at. Anyone familiar with gaming knows you're gonna spend a lot of time looking at the screen so it better deliver and it does. With this kind of power, Alienware did a great job of the ventilation. It does feel warm but it doesn't get over hot. The sound is fantastic although I know most people will load up their gamer headsets I still enjoy hearing the sound through the on-board speakers and there is no denying the quality of the speaker system.Of course, what would Alienware be without all the cool lighting? Built into the computer are LED areas on the keyboard, LED logos, highlights on the sides, and of course the light up touchpad. I for one will never understand even having the touchpad. Everyone uses a mouse - if you've never had a laptop before do yourself a favor - forget the touchpad. They are annoying. That said if you don't have a mouse the touchpad is very responsive and although it is a touchpad it works very well. For anyone not familiar - Alienware has its own configuration. This is found in the start bar. Alienware command center. This answered a lot of my questions such as why the computer goes to sleep even after I thought I had already told it not to.A couple of basic computer steps I highly suggest. By opening windows explorer right click on 'computer'. Change your computer name. Right click on the start and select computer management > Local Users and Groups > Administrator > Right click set password; right click properties; deselect account is disabled. Get familiar with the Alienware command center. Put it on your desktop and don't be afraid to play around. I have two young boys who LOVE playing with this app as it also controls the colors of the lights. (mentioned above).

  • What can I say? This beast is amazing!
Nacho Libra (Mar 10, 2017) on Amazon
When I chose this, I had no idea Alienware had sold out to Dell. Nothing wrong with Dell - I have a much cheaper Dell gaming laptop that has served me well, but that one compared to this - to me, after experiencing this Alienware, the year-old Dell seems like a normal everyday laptop now.Extraordinarily rugged build quality. No matter where you press, there is no flex to this laptop. But it sure is heavy.Take note that Amazon is lumping different models here altogether. My computer does *not* have the Tobii eye tracking. Mine is the 1060 with 8 GB ram and the 1 TB hard drive.Things I love:>> The matte screen is beautiful, the sharpest screen ever laid my eyes on, and even from an angle, it's easy to see the screen.>> Speakers sound great>> LED lighting - take this bad boy out in public and you'll be the envy of everyone around. I love that the sides of the laptop light up and you can change the colors to whatever you want.Hands down....the computer can take whatever you dish out to it, and it begs for more. I'm a very casual gamer, and this handles every game I've played like it was nothing, Doom for an example.Somewhat disappointing, but to be expected:>> Battery life is about 3.75 hours for me. It has the smaller size of the 2 batteries offered.

  • Great bang for the buck
    Sparkey_AZ (Jun 27, 2018) on Amazon
I use this laptop for a lot of things if I need to go anywhere. The gtx1060 gpu surprises me at how powerful it is. The 1060 has a little more clock speed than the actual desktop gpu and on a lot of games I can still run at ultra settings and it's amazing. I bought this laptop with 8gb of ram, 1tb hdd, and an Intel I7-7700HQ. I upgraded and installed a samsung 250gb evo 970 m.2 ssd and cloned the o.s. to that drive so now windows 10 starts in a matter of seconds literally seconds. I then upgraded the ram from 8gb to 16gb. I also installed a 2tb hdd in for more storage. After I did just a few upgrades it's a very nice fast laptop and has awesome potential. One thing is that the killer WiFi card it came with stumbled a few times after downloading for awhile so I changed that WiFi card out with an Intel wireless-Ac 9260. It's a great laptop and I'm very happy I was able to get it. Also Amazon customer service was great and was able to answer a lot of difficult questions I asked them. Im going to have this laptop for a very long time. This is a great upgrade from my old 2006 alienware m17x.

  • Not regretting owning it.. So far.
Texan (Oct 3, 2017) on Amazon
Pros:- Much higher quality build than other laptop in this priced range.- It can be the most attractive laptop in the room or the most subtle. The customization of lighting will set this laptop apart from anything out there in the market.- Brightly lit LED screen and not dim like other have said. Don't understand why some people complain about this. Color are bright and vivid, much better than a TN panel. Also, the LED have a cons.- Cooling system is very good at keeping the system staying cool when it needs too. Pretty much dead silent on normal browser use so viewing a movie is quite pleasant.- Sound is very good for a laptop this size. Not a lot of bass, but it's very clear and loud.- I was surprise of the keyboard. I thought I like a chiclet keyboard more, but turns out, this one is much better and feels very nice to the touch.- Liteup mouse pad is a nice touch. Also have a cons.- I use this for Adobe Suit, so, side macro button is very useful for Photoshop and such. It can be useful if you game too.- Your game require too much GPU? No problem! It has the ability for an exteral video card attachement, something a lot of other vendor can't do. So, even if your internal card is out-of-date, you'd still be up-to-date when you attached your newer card.Cons:- You can get more for your money buying other brands but you'll scrify the build quality.- LED screen color is not very accurate for photo editing. You can solve that buy buying a LCD calibration tools.- Not RGB lighting, but has enough color for you not to care about RGB.- Back-lite keyboard and mouse pad light has a delay. It doesn't immediately go on when you touch it most of the time. Less responsive than the Asus lighting.- Mousepad can sometime skip of what you're trying to touch. It's hard to describe it, but it's anoying enough that I notic it. Mousepad physical left and right click is also anyoingly stiff. Overall mousepad, the Asus is better than the Alienware.- Bloatware is not as heavy as I remember them, but it's still there. We really don't need trials stuff to be installed.- Does not cook for me.Overall:I'm happy with my purchase. You can get a much better performance system at the same price from other vendor, but, I like the build quality so much that I can overlook that. The most crucial upgrade you can give this laptop is buying the new M.2 SSD for better overal performance. My last gaming entry laptop (Sony Vaio), lasted me over 12yrs and counting. I hope Alienware can deliver that kind of longevity.

  • Worst buy of my life. Please read until the end
Jay (Jul 11, 2017) on Amazon
So I'm going to warn you this will be quite a read as I'm going to try to summarize the most important events that happened to me as a result of buying this laptop in the most honest way I can.So I had this laptop for around 2 years and it simply won't turn on anymore. I don't normally like leaving bad reviews, but I feel like I can't just sit idle and say nothing about it. I feel almost scammed of my money. I paid 2000 in CAD for this laptop only to run into countless troubleshooting errors even from the very beginning.Minor issue, but the number 3 on the keyboard broke quite early into the purchase. It would just stick up like something was pushing up from under it. Most likely a manufacturing defect as I hardly ever used the button at all. Small issues aside, as the laptop was nearing the end of its lifespan (2 or so years). The wifi would suddenly cut out and stop working completely. I'd know this was not my internet bugging out because all other devices had functioning internet. This was especially annoying when it would do this while in the middle of a game that needed internet connectivity. I ended up completely withdrawing from playing games with the laptop as it was unreliable. These periods of wifi outage would come and go sometimes lasting for an hour or so and resulted in many nights of scouring every available internet resource on the web to get it working again. On one occasion it got so bad that it nearly lasted the whole day. By some miracle I finally managed to get the internet working and I felt a small glimpse of hope running through me and fell asleep. To my surprise the very next morning the computer WOULD NOT EVEN TURN ON and it is broken UNTIL NOW 2020/12/01. Fortunately I was able to back up some of the more important files to a small usb drive as I'd suspected the laptop was unstable due to it cutting out on wifi on multiple occasions. I've also tried to contact dell support to ask if they could give me any advice in order to possibly be able to turn the machine on again in which I was met with no help at all and only silence. In in all fairness it's valid on their part as the warranty had expired after 2 years, and I was 5 months out of warranty. However, In one instance I remember being on the phone with someone only for the call to be abruptly ended. This was strange to me, and so I remember asking what location they were in and they said India. I'm aware of these tech support scams, but I'm 99% certain I called DELL support.I also found it kind of sketchy that they asked for my credit card details when I asked them how I could pay for the repair fees. Maybe that's how it's done nowadays but there's no way I'd give my card number to a random stranger over the phone half way across the world. So now I'm at a dead end not really left with an option besides trying to get it repaired at some computer repair shop.So please if you are reading this save yourself the time, the money, and the pain and suffering. There is something seriously wrong with the motherboards on these computers. To put it simply, It's overpriced junkware that will last you about a year of "solid" gaming time minus countless hours of headaches and problems. And let me reiterate this again, but the problem with the wifi cutting out being a big one.One of my most regretful buys I've made in my life. But I guess it's lesson learned. This event traumatized me, and I will never ever be looking to buy anything labeled Dell again. Thanks for reading my review of this "machine" if you've made it this far.

  • Bad hardware
Amazon Customer (Feb 9, 2019) on Amazon
Something is wrong with this laptop. It stalls and hangs up alot, for specs like alienware, it should not be acting like this. I have a 15in alienware too and it works much much better than this one. Something is wrong with this machine and I think I read another review of someone else experiencing the same thing. The batch this seller has on this laptop is a batch of partially defective machines that they probably got at discount because they know they are not good machines. do not buy, something is wrong with the hardware, either the hard disk or the gpu or memeory. GPU seems find in my opinion so it might be the HDD or Memory that is on its way to full failure. I will 110% be returning this.
