which was an excellent unit. Up front

I purchased this as a replacement for my aging Toshiba Chromebook, which was an excellent unit.Up front, I am sold on Chromebooks. Being 30 years in software, the Chromebooks make all kinds of sense and are a joy to use. The Acer for Work is pretty. More importantly, it is noticeably faster than the Toshiba was and it keeps that excellent performance as you open tabs and load up the machine. The bigger screen is a huge plus for me and that also translates into a better keyboard experience as well. A little more key spacing and larger trackpad area is a great addition. All in all a great purchase. While it was a bit more money than the Toshiba (about $250 a few years ago) the performance is really worth it.The USB3 charger is great and appears to be very sturdy. The glass top is handsome but was not a factor in my purchase decision. I wanted performance and scalability. The Acer is a home run in these areas.

Bought this for use of my main computer after I became tired of the constant slow updates and the maintenance of my windows laptop. With this I get what I want to do instantly. I did take a chance on this Chromebook. I bought an Acer about four years ago but the screen was too dim, maybe due to the matte screen. This one is plenty bright enough and looks nice. I found out the the screen is rated at 246 nits brightness compared to the 212 nits on the regular Acer Chromebook 14. The i3 processor is lightening fast. They actually sell higher priced versions of this computer with i5 and i7 processors. That would be major overkill. Love the backlit keyboard, but the keyboard itself is nothing special. I do wish they used capital letters on the keys.Upon initial startup this Chromebook will immediately update and install the Google Play store. Most apps work well on this computer.

This has worked great as a no-frills travel laptop. It took a minute to figure out VPN and Remote Desktop compatibility, but once I did it was perfect. Even my IT department still claims that ChromeBooks are incompatible with our software but I?ve had it working for months. The best part is that it?s shock & water resistant, so I don?t have to worry about my drooling baby messing around with it.

Nice Machine, but not sure for WORK

I spent the last week or so reading everything I could get my hands on so I'd have some idea of how to use the Chromebook. I've been using computers since Apple II+. It took me about 8 hours to really feel comfortable with how this computer works. I'm pleased with all but the touchpad - it seems a little unpredictable - sometimes click works quickly, sometimes I click several times to get something open. I'm sure that will improve as I adjust to it. But I'm not sure I will ever be able to get all my Windows business programs to run on Chrome. I've installed CodeWeavers and CrossOver, but have not yet figured out how to use them to install my Windows 10 business programs. IF I get my business programs to work, I'll change this review to a 5.

Very pleased except with battery life

I got the boost in performance I wanted with the I3 processor and 4 GB of memory. But the claim of "up to 12 hours of battery" life are just not true. Lasts about 6 hours at most. Other than that the device feels well made as the lid feels nice and tight opening it. The keyboard keys are responsive and the touchpad not too annoying. Yet another good reason to buy a $350 Chrombook and not spend 5 times as much on a Mac or high end laptop when you only need a browser.

Nice power, battery and build, okay display

This machine is snappy, the 6th gen i3 processor is plenty for a Chromebook. The keyboard and touchpad are both good and the glass top attracts fingerprints but they wipe off easily. USB type C is going to become more and more common, so it's great that this device charges via a USB C port. Battery life has been really wonderful, I use this for general web browsing, Google Docs and Youtube videos and I can go days without charging. This device can now run Android apps, which opens up a lot of possibilities. Games like Hearthstone work surprisingly well. The speakers are adequate, but once a week or so I'll hear a little static on top of whatever audio is playing. If I pause the audio for a second and restart it, the static is gone. It's minor and uncommon but it makes me wonder about the quality of the speakers. Finally, the 1366 x 768 display is only okay. It's matte, so you don't get a lot of glare, and brightness seems good to me. The contrast is a little lacking though, and the viewing angles aren't great. The display isn't really a distraction to me and I use this laptop everyday, but don't expect it to be great.Overall this is a machine with great performance, Android app support, a good touchpad and keyboard, an okay screen and a great price. Overall I'm very happy with it.
