I've used the Acer 17" i5 notebook for almost 4 weeks now after using a 17" dual core for 10 years. Probably have around 100 hours of use. I've had 0 problems with it both sleeping it closing the lid and hibernating. I use it plugged in so cannot comment on battery life. I typically have 8-12 programs loaded.Pros:- Stays cool. Rarely is more than cool to the touch, including doing intensive computing or using a flight simulator.- It's very light - much lighter than my 17" Gateway and wife's MacBookPro.- Resumes from hibernation very fast.- Auto-selects internal graphics or nVidia as needed or you can choose what to use on a per-app basis.- Wireless signal is full strength 50 ft from router (Gateway was 20-30%).- Fast whatever I do including building Windows applications.- The touchpad is fine as long as you change the delay to double tap - otherwise I agree that it would be too sensitive.- Windows 10 works well.- HDMI to enable viewing on TV, e.g. including watching ESPN3.- Not a lot of bloatware. Uninstalled only 3 or 4 things, none of which was noticeably slowing down the PC.Cons:- All plastic case doesn't feel sturdy but that does keep it light.- Wish it had SSD or instructions to add an SSD.- Power cord come out the side on the back corner. Minor I know but I like it on the back.- USB ports on the sides way up front. More likely to get accidentally hit. Again, minor.

Good performance.. Great value for money.. But delicate.. Need some extra care.. No cd/dvd drive.. It is said to be charcoal gray but looks almost like black..

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THIS LAPTOP!!!!!!!!It's an amazing laptop for the price (550 for me), however it has its pros and cons, you have to be willing to trade some features for anothers, this been said, here you go:Cons-Materials: It's NOT a 1000$ laptop, so you are NOT getting a 1000$ case!! If you expect so, then go away and buy a Alienware or ROG, this is a 600$ laptop intent to light gaming and daily duties... And please dont be that people that buy this laptop and keep complaining about its quality or sturdiness.however its perfectly fine for normal use, the keyboard and touchpad are a little loose when you press it, but again, not a dealbreaker for me, like i say, you have to trade a feature for another.-Touchpad: It's not a normal touchpad, is a "Precision touchpad", no that precise and configurable as i like, windows wont let you use the edge scrolling only two finger scrolling so get use to it.-NO DVD DRIVE (read carefully), it has not a optical drive in it, this laptop comes with a black tray, again not a dealbreaker for me, actually this was perfect for me because i replace the black tray with a 9.5mm WONENICE HDD CADDY and put in the 1tb drive in the slot (SATA 3GB/s), using my SSD in the main slot (SATA 6gb/s).PD: Dont worry about the front bezel, the black tray comes with a fully removable front bezel, so you take it out and attach to the HDD CADDY, remember to buy a 9.5mm caddy, cuz the 12.7mm wont fit in this laptop.PROS:-Perfectly match CPU and GPU for this price, Intel i7-5500u, Nvidia 940m... It took me about 2 weeks looking for the correct laptop, and at this price im more than happy with it. I could not find a better specs at 550$, in this price you can have a 6th generation SKYLAKE cpu with no GPU, IMHO always is better to have dedicate graphics, no matter the CPU have a 5% less performace, same thing with the HQ cpu's, obviously you get more horsepower but again at this price no gpu so....-Display: Again at this price i could not get a better specs, its a full-hp 1080p TN display, excellent display BTW, good no great view angles, good bright, good colors, no glare at all, great for gaming... for me and for the price is a perfect panel.. again, look and check for the price and you'll only find 768p displays.-Battery: great battery life with this 4-cell.. i get about 4-5 hours with medium load.. obviously gaming you get as much as 1 hour. however who plays in bat?? it is no logical thing to do.-Excellent electronic build quality: When i did the ssd-hdd switch (about 30 minutes after i got it) i took off the down cover exposing the motheboard, and what a pleasing surprise it has a excellent build quality!!!! 10 year long-lasting electronic, easily.-Temp: this topic amaze me more than it should!! the fan refuse to turn on even with 1080p video playback, temps in idle are 29-32 for CPU, with Nvidia optimus GPU wont turn on at least you open a game... while Playing (FC4, CODAW, ACU, WD) CPU temp stays at 70, GPU gets as high as 75. the chassis wont get hot at all and the fan is hard to tell its on with the game sounds and stuff.I think already talked a lot. so for conclusion, if you are a gamer and got a lot of money to invest go with a game-build laptop.. otherwise you want great overall performance for your money go with this one. i strongly recommend it.Final toughs:- Use an SSD with it. (boot time: 6sec- shutdown: 4sec)- Make a fresh windows install to remove all bloatware, dont worry about the windows 10 key, its embedded in the mobo so if you reinstall windows 10 HOME edition, no worries about the license, it not even ask for it.-put an addicional RAM stick, 4gb, 8gb, whatever but up to 16gb combine... this is to activate DUAL-CHANNEL access. its gets about 25% better performance.-it is pretty thin laptop, i love it.

You should put 8gb more ram in it, i did it like that.

Amazing laptop for the price.

AMAZING.. a beautiful deal.. it keeps up with everything (and I do a lot, from websurfing, while gaming, while watching youtube or listening to songs, lol)... it was very affordably priced when I'd bought it ($599)... I'm beyond happy with this unit. <3.. A+. It is a very nice computer, but the DVD unit is not available and the sounds speakers are not loud enough. But I love it!

Excellent laptop. Although not extremely well-made, it is plastic after all, it is speedy especially considering it has an 5400rpm internal hard drive. The screen image is very nice indeed and the 8GB RAM is ample. I will get around, however, to upgrading it with an SSD and 8GB more RAM. There was a lot of bloatware installed on the laptop but after spending an hour or so removing every last vestige of the bloatedness I have a clean machine.Very nice laptop indeed. Highly recommended.

Excellent Laptop. Does everything I expected. My client is very pleased.

I have been using this laptop for my classes and I am a Management Information System Major and it is perfect! Can run all of my programs perfectly and can play games such as league of legends and Fall out 4 with no problems. If you are looking for a laptop for games and school this is the perfect laptop for you.

Great laptop for the price. Bought it for daughter for college. Not an intense gaming laptop but she does play MineCraft on it with texture packs.

My wife and I love this new laptop. This is an upgrade for us from a 5 year old laptop we have enjoyed until it died. Sturdy, great crisp picture, larger keys, larger screen than we had. Life is good.

This is a wonderful value and works like a charm. So much power for so little price. Would buy again and highly recommend it to anyone that wants a speedy laptop with lots of bells and whistles!! No DVD player, but that's ok, too. There is a place for one if we decide to add one later on.

Bought it to play Minecraft and 100+ FPS on normal settings. Fixing to install CSGO, most likely getting around 80-100 FPS.

reinstall windows and add the SSD and this thing smokes.

Love the computer, only one problem it wouldn't power up after using it for a week, but Amazon was quick to get me a replacement. Otherwise very pleased with this laptop.

been using it for half a year it feels like nowWhy is this so cheap? These specs are usually in the 800 range. This is crazy amazing for something this cheap.

I'm not sure I should be posting a review right now because I haven't play any games on the laptop, but up until now I'm satisfied with it.The only detail I have found is that when I click somehow energetically on the touchpad it sounds like something is broken.

very good purchase

I wanted to wait to give a review until a few months had passed. The laptop is fast and does everything I need it to do, including relatively light gaming. I've had no major issues so far except with the keyboard. The backspace button has been a little sticky since the beginning, and sometimes I have to restart the computer to use the keyboard. (There's probably a simple fix to this that I'm unaware of.) The battery life doesn't last as long as maybe some people would like, but I've never had it die on me and I've used it over two hours before. I'm happy with the volume and the customization options as well as the screen quality. It does feel a little on the filmy side but it's probably not a good idea to beat up your computer anyway. Overall, I would recommend this laptop for the price. I use it as a student and am quite happy with it. However, I would recommend a mouse because the built-in pad is a little irritating.

I'm very impressed and happy with this computer. It was actually recommended to me by computer guy when I was willing to pay a lot more for another model. It has not disappointed. Runs great. Very fast and the screen is easy on the eyes, no glare.

Works perfectly as advertised.
