Jio Phone Deliveries Begin, Discounts on Samsung Phones, Airtel Free Data Offer, and More: Your 360 Daily

Jio Phone deliveries have supposedly begun and customers in rural areas and small cities will get the Jio Phone before those in urban locations, according to a Reliance Jio channel partner. Reliance plans to complete the delivery of the Jio Phone in 15 days. The reason for this phased delivery is “to avoid inconvenience”. If you pre-booked the Jio Phone - and 6 million people supposedly did - you’ll get it by Diwali, October 19.

It's nothing like any other feature phone and our experience so far streaming content on Jio apps like JioMusic, JioCinema, and JioTV has been pretty smooth. Samsung offering discounts on popular phones; Amazon's recent Sale was its biggest shopping event ever
Samsung is offering discounts on its flagship and midrange phones. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is Rs. 53,900 while the Samsung Galaxy S8+ (4GB version) is Rs. 60,900. In addition to this, there’s a Rs. 4,000 discount for HDFC Bank credit card holders. The offer for these smartphones is similar to the Navratras Offer revealed a week ago.

This isn’t all, the Samsung Galaxy On Max is now Rs. 15,900 - a Rs. 1,00 discount while the Galaxy On Nxt is now Rs. 13,900 - Rs. 2,000 less. Plus, there’s a five percent discount for those with ICICI credit cards. Other smartphones to get a price drop include the Galaxy On7 Pro, Galaxy J3 Pro, and On5 Pro. Check out all the details .

Amazon claims its four-day Great Indian Festival Sale was its largest ever in India. "We are especially excited about growing e-commerce in India with more than 85 percent of new customers from small towns." said Manish Tiwary, Vice President of Category Management, Amazon India in a press statement. The company said its Project Udaan programme helped customers place orders from the remotest places in India including Leh, Minicoy, Kiltan, Kalpeni, Champin, Trinket, Mile Tilek, Tirap, and Saiha.

Airtel's latest offers to compete against Jio and others
Airtel has continued its aggressive spate of offers to bring new customers to its network. The latest, called ‘Bonus 30GB’ gives new postpaid users 30GB free data for three months. It would be doled out in 10GB tranches each month. It’s available for those on the Unlimited series postpaid plans except for the Rs. 299 plan.You can avail Bonus 30GB offer with plans offered at Rs. 499, Rs. 649, Rs. 799, and Rs. 1,199, and you can carry data over to the next month.

And if you’re a prepaid customer, Airtel has a Rs. 999 plan - it offers 4GB data per day, comes with bundled local and STD calls, and has a 28-day validity.

Nokia 8 variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB built-in storage launch set for October 20: Report
Like other smartphones this year, the Nokia 8 will be available in a 6GB RAM, 128GB storage variant. Reportedly out on October 20, it will be available in a single Polished Blue colour for EUR 90 more than the 4GB Nokia 8, priced at EUR 669 (around Rs. 51,700). Apart from the new storage and memory, the rest of the specifications offered by the new variant of the Nokia 8 remain the same. This means that the handset will pack a 5.3-inch 2K LCD display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC.

Sony Xperia XZ1 with 3D scanning camera, Android 8.0 Oreo launched in India: Price, Specifications
Sony’s latest flagship, the Xperia XZ1 was launched on Monday for the Indian market. It’s the first smartphone to ship in India with Android 8.0 Oreo. Priced at Rs. Rs. 44,990, one of other the biggest marketed features of the Sony Xperia XZ1 is its 3D scanning camera. The high-end Sony Xperia XZ1 rear camera supports 5-axis stabilisation and is capable of doing slow-motion video recording at 960fps, similar to the Xperia XZ Premium, in addition to 4K video recording. It had been announced in single-SIM and dual-SIM variants. In India, the company is only bringing the latter variant to the India market. It has 4GB RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 64GB storage (expandable via microSD card to 256GB). It features a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) HDR display powered by Sony's Triluminos display and X-Reality technology configured for mobiles.

95 mobile firms have set up manufacturing plants in India: Prasad
Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday said 95 mobile manufacturing companies have set up their plants in the country. "Today 95 mobile manufacturing factories have come up in India and India is becoming a big hub of electronics and mobile manufacturing. Of these, 32 units have come up in Noida and Greater Noida," Prasad said at the Capital Foundation Annual Lecture in New Delhi. "Every day we are adding 3-4 startups. They are IITians, they left their jobs in America and have come back to India," he said. "In Silicon Valley (US), 51 percent of new inventions are IT-based and 14 percent of those are created by Indian minds there. That is how India is emerging," he added.The minister also said the government plans to make 6 crore families in the country digital-literate as part of the Digital India plan.

Intel 8th Gen Core i7, i5, i3 'Coffee Lake' CPUs for desktop PCs announced
To combat AMD’s ever-rising popularity of its Ryzen chips, Intel has announced new processors based on its 14 nanometre Coffee Lake architecture. Touted to have more cores than before, the new top-end Core i7-8700K and Core i7-8700 feature six cores and twelve threads, while the new Core i5-8600K and Core i5-8400 also have six cores but without Hyper-Threading, and the Core i3-8350K and Core i3-8100 have four physical cores without Hyper-Threading. All six are already listed as being available for preorder on Indian websites and will go on sale as boxed retail units on October 5, but branded desktop PCs featuring these processors will come later in Q4 2017.

Gionee M7, M7 Power with FullView displays launched
Gionee unveiled its new mid-range smartphones, the M7 and M7 Power in China. The Gionee M7 has been priced at CNY 2,799 (roughly Rs. 27,500), and will be going on sale starting Tuesday in China. The Gionee M7 Power has been priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 20,000), and will be going on sale in China starting Saturday. The Gionee M7 will be available in Black, Champagne Gold, Sapphire Blue, Star Blue, and Maple Red while the Gionee M7 Power will be available in Blue, Black and Gold colours.

The Gionee M7 has a 6.01-inch 18:9 FullView AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass with a 1080x2160 resolution. It’s powered by a 2.3GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P30 SoC with 6GB RAM and has 64GB inbuilt stoage (expandable via microSD card upto 256GB). Meanwhile, the Gionee M7 Power has a 6-inch  FullView 18:9 display with 720x1440 resolution with a 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt stoage (expandable via microSD card upto 256GB).

IMEI tampering may attract up to 3-year jail term, fine
The Indian government has made tampering of the IMEI number of a mobile phones a punishable offence that can attract jail term of up to three years as it seeks to curb incidence of mobile theft. The move could curb issues pertaining to fake IMEI numbers and also ease tracking of lost mobile phones.

"It shall be unlawful, if a person, except the manufacturer - intentionally removes, obliterates, changes, or alters unique Mobile Device Equipment Identification Number," the Department of Telecom said in a notification dated August 25.

The new rules called "the prevention of tampering of the Mobile Device Equipment Identification Number, Rules, 2017" bar a person from knowingly using mobile device whose IMEI number has been changed unlawfully or software that can change or tamper the unique number.

Zomato makes investment in Hyderabad-based home cooked meals startup TinMen
Zomato said on Monday that it has made an investment in Hyderabad-based startup TinMen, as a part of the company’s vision to make kitchens redundant in homes across the world by offering home cooked meals at affordable prices. As part of the agreement, Zomato will help TinMen expand its presence outside Hyderabad. TinMen competes in the same space as some of Zomato's small rivals such as Swiggy and Freshmenu. As of recently, TinMen was seeing about 1,000 orders on its platform each day from less than a dozen areas in Hyderabad. TinMen offers "home cooked meals.”
